More than 50 years of experience in finance have left Mr. Petersen an authority in his industry and the current president and chief executive officer of D.A. Petersen Associates, Inc., in Minneapolis, MN since 1975. Previously, he excelled as the youth director of the Mankato Family YMCA from 1964 to 1968, a teacher at Minnesota State University, Mankato, from 1965 to 1968, and the executive director of Day Camp Christmas Tree and the associate executive director of the West Suburban YMCA from 1968 to 1972. Likewise, he was the executive director of the Minneapolis Eastside YMCA from 1972 to 1975. Further, Mr. Petersen was active as the assistant executive director of the American Red Cross Twin Cities Area from 1979 to 1991, the program and financial development director of East Side Neighborhood Services, Inc., from 1975 to 1979, and the MOH director of the Major and Planned Gifts of the American National Red Cross from 1989 to 1991.
Prior to becoming an esteemed financial and administration leader, Mr. Petersen pursued higher education at Minnesota State University, Mankato, with a Bachelor of Science in education in 1966 and postgraduate coursework in counseling psychology from 1966 to 1968. He was mentored by Phil Brain, a colleague at the Minneapolis YMCA who helped him transfer from Mankato to Minneapolis YMCA.
Apart from his career, Mr. Petersen volunteered in his field and community. He served as the president and founder of the Minnesota Planned Giving Council in 1974, COB of Minnesota NSFRE in 1984-85, and the chair of the Saint Anthony New Brighton Endowment Foundation from 1988 to 1992, and the chair of the board of St. Paul SCORE 2014 to 2016.
The proudest moment of Mr. Petersen's career was receiving the Outstanding Fundraiser of the Year Award from the American National Red Cross in 1989 and was the lead trainer for every fundraiser from 1980-1991. In light of his many achievements in the field, he has received a number of accolades throughout his career. Mr. Petersen was a founding and owner entrepreneur of six companies. He has been featured in several editions of Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the Midwest and Who's Who in the World.
