SOUTH BEND, IN, August 06, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Dr. Coleman with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Coleman celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

With more than 40 years of experience to his credit, Robert Randolf Coleman has established himself as an expert in Italian Renaissance and Baroque art history. Raised in a family of artists and musicians in New York City, he fostered an interest for art and art history at an early age. He pursued higher education at the State University of New York at New Paltz, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in art history in 1970. To develop a deeper understanding of the field of art history, Dr. Coleman continued his studies at the University of Chicago, where he was a Special Trustees Fellow, obtaining a Master of Arts in the Italian Renaissance in 1973. Fifteen years later, he graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy in art history in the same field from the University of Chicago.

After discovering his love for teaching, Dr. Coleman accepted the position of an associate professor at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana in 1990. During his tenure with the institution, he taught art history of the Italian Renaissance, Italian Baroque, and 18th century Europe, assuming the role of professor emeritus in 2016. One year later, Dr. Coleman was admitted to the academy of the Veneranda Biblioteca Ambrosiana in Milan in recognition for his creation and development of an online catalogue of the Ambrosiana's old master drawings collection. The inventory provides a detailed description, including title, artist, dimensions and mediums, of thousands of pieces.

Dr. Coleman's scholarship focuses primarily on Italian art dating from the 16th through the 18th centuries. A prolific author, he has contributed his expertise to numerous articles in professional publications, in addition to giving lectures and presentations all over the world. His writings have explored the art of the 16th century, such as in the Italian provinces of Lombardy and Piedmont. He has also worked extensively on Italian old master drawings, including those published in "A Corpus of Drawings in Midwestern Collections: Sixteenth-Century Italian Drawings" in 2008 and 2010. Additionally, Dr. Coleman published a monograph, "The Ambrosiana Albums of Giambettino Cignaroli (1706-1770)" in 2011, which provides a critical analysis and evaluation of the graphic works of an important 18th century Veronese painter. Widely recognized as an expert in his field, he is the chief organizer and the co-author of an exhibition and catalogue of Italian old master drawings and prints entitled "Pencil, Pen, Brush, Graver: 16th-18th Italian Works on Paper," that will be displayed in the Collection of the Georgia Museum of Art at the University of Georgia in 2020.

For his accomplishments in the field, Dr. Coleman has been recognized in the 64th edition of Who's Who in America. He has also been presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, presented to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and made notable contributions to their field. Furthermore, Dr. Coleman has been the recipient of the President's Award from the Midwest Art Society, where he served as the president from 2008 to 2011, and where he continues to serve as a member of its board of directors. In order to remain current within the field of art history, he continues to maintain his affiliation with the Department of Art, Art History and Design, the Medieval Institute and the Nanovic Institute for European Studies at the University of Notre Dame, and the Renaissance Society of America.
