A retired public health consultant and a health commissioner with the Connecticut Department of Public Health and Addiction Services in Hartford, Ms. Addiss headed the state department from 1991 to 1995. She began her professional journey in 1969 as a health educator for the New Haven Health Department in New Haven. Following this appointment, Ms. Addiss fulfilled the roles of health director and health planning bureau chief before becoming a health director once again for the Quinnipiack Valley Health District in Hamden.

Ms. Addiss has been a lecturer at the University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington since 1978. Concurrently, she gained additional expertise as an assistant clinical professor at the Yale University School of Nursing since 1988. Ms. Addiss formerly lectured in Yale's Department of Epidemiology and Public Health (now the Yale School of Public Health) between 1970 and 1995.

Throughout her career, Ms. Addiss has published extensively. She has authored or co-authored numerous scholarly articles in such publications as the Journal of Public Health Policy and the American Journal of Public Health. An expert in her field, Ms. Addiss has covered a wide ranging array of topics, from economics and community health, to primary health care, and pediatric health care as it relates to low middle-income populations.

Since 1997, Ms. Addiss has served on the board of Environment and Human Health Inc. Likewise, from 1999 onward she has maintained a position on the board of the Watershed Fund. She formerly served the Community Fund for Women and Girls in New Haven as an advisory board member between 2012 and 2018, and the Connecticut Health Foundation as a founding member of its board from 1999 to 2008.

An alumnus of the prestigious Yale University, Ms. Addiss received Masters of Public Health and Urban Studies in 1969. She previously received a Bachelor of Arts at Smith College in 1951. Presently, Ms. Addiss is a member and a past president of the American Public Health Association, the Connecticut Public Health Association, and Quota International of New Haven. She is a life member of the Board of Governors and a former board director of the Westover School, and a former board chairman of Planned Parenthood of Connecticut. She notably received the C.E.A. Winslow Award from the Connecticut Public Health Association in 1994.

In 1981, Ms. Addiss was presented with a Smith College Medal. Moreover, she received a Distinguished Alumna Award from the Association of Yale Alumni in Public Health in 1994. As a celebrated Marquis listee, Ms. Addiss has been featured in several editions of Who's Who in America and Who's Who of American Women. Adjacent to her career, her avocations include tennis, cooking, needle-crafts, music, and art appreciation.
