With 37 years of industry experience to her credit, Dr. Moldenhauer has worked at the University of Arkansas in Stuttgart as a professor since 1992 and chair of variety development since 2002. She began her research career at the university's Rice Research and Extension Center campus as an assistant professor in 1982, remaining in this position for five years before moving up the ranks to associate professor from 1987 to 1992. She then became a full professor and interim director of the Rice Research and Extension Center in the Division of Agriculture at the university's Stuttgart campus for one year. Dr. Moldenhauer attributes her success to her mentors, Dr. Kenneth Frey, her former professor, and Dr. Neil Rutger, her colleague when she was first starting out in the field.

Prior to embarking on her professional path, Dr. Moldenhauer pursued a formal education at Iowa State University in Ames, earning a Bachelor of Science in 1975. She then attended North Carolina State University in Raleigh, where she received a Master of Science in plant genetics in 1977. She returned to North Carolina State University to obtain a Doctor of Philosophy in plant genetics in 1982. In college, Dr. Moldenhauer was in the Botany Club, and it seemed like an excellent area to explore. In addition, she heard about plant breeding, which put plants and genetics together and sounded fascinating to her.

Throughout her career, Dr. Moldenhauer has witnessed many key achievements, including the release of 33 new high yielding varieties, such as the most recent released "Diamond." Additionally, she holds patents for 13 rice varieties. Outside of her primary trade, Dr. Moldenhauer keeps updated of trends in her field through affiliations with numerous organizations. She has maintained involvement with the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Association of Cereal Chemists, the Crop Science Society of America, the American Society of Agronomy and Beta Sigma Phi.

In light of her exceptional undertakings, Dr. Moldenhauer received fellowships from the Crop Science Society of America in 1998, the American Society of Agronomy in 1999, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2007. She was also honored with the Friend of the Farmer Award by Riceland Foods, Inc., in 2001. Later on, the Rice Technology Working Group honored her with the Distinguished Research and Education Award in 2002 and the Distinguished Rice Research and Education Team Award in 2004. Moreover, Dr. Moldenhauer was selected for inclusion in the 28th edition of Who's Who of American Women and the 64th through 70th editions of Who's Who in America.
