Janice-Lynn Shuhan Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

    WOODLAND PARK, NJ, August 13, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Janice-Lynn Nazziola Shuhan with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Shuhan celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. Recently retired High School Teacher/Administrator, Dr. Shuhan has served the school district of Belleville, NJ for 37 years as a school choreographer, a math teacher, an English teacher, the Athletics Game Manager, and Assistant Director and Director of Belleville's Theatre Arts Company completing 56 musical productions at Belleville High School. During her tenure she has lent her expertise as Mathematics Lead teacher, Acting Math Supervisor, Dean of Students, and Acting Vice Principal. She served on numerous math textbook selection committees as chair, the National Honor Society Selection Committee, QSAC (the Theatre Arts and Extra Curricular Activities) component, "co-authored in-house mathematics textbook "Math Essentials," and resource guides titled "Skills and Suggested Strategies" in an effort to address new state proficiency testing topics not yet covered in current textbooks in1989. She offered one-on-one teacher mentoring/professional development on Texas Instrument Graphic Calculators and Methodology workshops as a Registered State Professional Development Provider. Dr. Shuhan also served as a model curriculum writer for HS and MS math courses. While employed full-time she completed an MA in Administration and Supervision graduating summa cum laude (1999), and a Vocational Theatre Arts/Dance certification. She completed her Doctorate in Math Pedagogy in 2006 from Montclair State University, where she received the prestigious Alumni Citation (2003). Her published research dissertation was a study on an interdisciplinary approach to HS math activities: the influence of Multiple-Intelligence inspired tasks on student learning of Geometry concepts. Other published articles derived from this study appear in the Analytic Teaching Journal, (2005) and The NJ Mathematics Teacher journal, (2011, 2017).

Very involved with her school community she served as a BOE campaign manager, Belleville Education Association Social Director, an Essex County Summer Student Youth Training Placement Instructor of Public Speaking, Drama, and Mathematics, a co-developer and video presenter of Belleville's own HSPT Prep Video Series, a performer in the annual Belleville/Nutley Columbus Day Parade, a judge for the Bella Signorina contest and oratorical contest sponsored by the Belleville Women's and Optimist's Clubs, Dance instructor for the Belleville Adult School Program and for the Nutley Italian American Club, a vocalist for the Belleville Kiwanis and Rotary Clubs, a presenter at the Annual Scholastic Awards Ceremony, and a regular NJ School Boards Curriculum Fair presenter at Convention Hall, Atlantic City, NJ. Outside of her school community, Dr. Shuhan served on the State Teacher's Forum based in Trenton, was an instructor for the Hi-Hills Day Camp in Gladstone, served on the Board of Governors for Cranford Dramatic Club, a director/choreographer for CDC as well as South Orange Maplewood and Piscataway school districts, and toured the U.S. coast as an accomplished actress-singer-dancer in the leading role in the National Touring Co of Pippin. Her credits include some 50 leading musical roles in dinner theatre, community theatre, off-Broadway and Broadway venues in NY and NJ. She has also appeared in national commercials, infomercials, prime time series, and films, such as: "Person of Interest," "Other People's Money," "A Fire in the Dark," and "Carlito's Way."

Among her poetic works, Dr. Shuhan published "Selections of the Heart and Soul, (2000), and poetry selections appearing in 'Theatre of the Mind," 2003, and other Noble House publications series such as, "Eternal Songs," 2000, "Between Darkness and Light," 2000, "Secret Hiding Places," 2000, and "The Peace to Come, " 2000. "Janice Lynn" is also a solo vocalist on the Jazz album entitled "Crazy in Love" by Janice Lynn released 2007 and still available online.

Among her professional organizations are NEA, BEA, NCTM, AMTNJ, ASCD, SAGAFTRA. Dr. Shuhan's awards of recognition include: the Steven's Leadership Award from Stevens' Institute of Technology who recognized the top 10 math and science teachers in NJ (1990), the Outstanding Math Educator Award named The Tandy Technology Scholar from Tandy Corporation where she was recognized in the top 8 math teachers out of 100 national finalists. (Janice-Lynn Shuhan represented the Northeastern region of the U.S. and appeared in Time Magazine (1991). She was named Essex County Teacher of the Year (1999-2000), Princeton Distinguished Secondary Teacher Finalist (2002-2003). Poet of the Year by the International Society of Poets (2001, 2004), Governor's School Teacher Recognition Award, Leading Actress in a Musical, Best Choreographer of a Musical, NJACT Awards (1997), named Mrs. WP-NJ America (1997), Montclair State University Alumni Citation (2003), and named on the Wall of Tolerance, Southern Poverty Law Center, Alabama, (2005).

In her "retirement" Dr. Shuhan has worked as a consultant for Standards Solutions LLC (2015), traveling some 100 miles to bring professional development to schools such as Pitman HS, Union HS, Paramus HS, NJ. She continues her professional theatrical pursuits, is currently a certified Zumba Fitness Instructor for 24-Hour Fitness, is a Member at Large for the North for the Association of Math Teachers of New Jersey, a math substitute teacher, in class-support teacher/mentor, tutor, and home instructor for Passaic Valley Regional School district, --and she is the founder and chief operating officer of her own school educational assistance company called Add Admin Plus, LLC.
