George A. Morgan, PhD, Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Dr. Morgan has been a leader in his academic field

FORT COLLINS, CO, August 13, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the World's premier publisher of biographical profiles is proud to present George A. Morgan with the Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr. Morgan has had 60 years of experience as a college administrator, faculty member, child development researcher, mentor to younger scholars, and author. In Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are taken into account.

Dr. Morgan earned a BA from DePauw University in psychology in 1958. He had two mentors: Bokumin Tsuchiyama, who encouraged him to pursue philosophy and religion (and was pleased when he was awarded a Danforth Graduate Fellowship) and Felix Goodson who led him to a career in psychology.

After a MA in psychology at Harvard and a PhD in Child Development at Cornell, under Henry Ricciuti, Dr. Morgan taught at Hiram College, helping to initiate and obtain funding for a major curriculum change, a 10-year academic plan, and, with Ralph Cebulla, an Upward Bound program. Next, he was scientist administrator and a researcher at NICHHD where he began, under Leon Yarrow, a career-long interest studying young children's motivation to try to solve problems and master skills. Then, for three years he was assistant academic VP at the College of Charleston.

Dr. Morgan moved in 1979 to Colorado State University, where for 13 years he was a dean and department head. Before retiring in 2001, he taught and, with colleagues, wrote articles and widely used textbooks on research methods and applied statistics for grad students and clinicians. Throughout and especially since "retiring" he focused on research and writing about children's mastery motivation, becoming the most cited scholar on that topic. Dr. Morgan's goal in recent years has been to help younger researchers and clinicians from around the world publish and apply their results to enhance children's persistence and pleasure while trying to master challenging tasks.
