Mr. Brown, who is 93, is a native of Cleveland, Ohio. He has had a multi-faceted professional career that continues with his "third career" as an author. His first book was published in 1995, as a retirement "job." It is based on his personal experience as a public speaker for more than 50 years. It is titled "I WOULD RATHER BE AUDITED BY THE IRS THAN GIVE A SPEECH." Nine years later, he began the first of three books on his experience as the government spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration task force that developed the prototype for today's airport security screening. He then turned to fiction in 2007 with the first of seven books in the next 11 years. In 2020, his latest book with be his most original one titled "STILL COMING OF AGE INTO MY 90s." He has other book ideas, as he puts it, "in the hopper."

An Infantry combat veteran in World War II, he later was commissioned a 2nd lieutenant in the Army Reserves. After 28 years, he retired as a lieutenant colonel attached to the Office of the Chief of Information in The Pentagon. He earned a Meritorious Service Medal, to go with his Combat Infantry Badge and Bronze Star.

Mr. Brown almost failed out of college until he took a class in journalism and found his first love - a career as a newspaper reporter for almost 14 years on three different Ohio newspapers: The Cleveland Press, The Columbus Citizen, and The Circleville Herald. In 1967, he began a 24-year second career as a federal government press officer/spokesman at the Department of Justice, Federal Aviation Administration, Department of Transportation, and finally The Government Printing Office.

In retirement, he became an adjunct professor of speech. In developing a unique grading system for students, he earned an Excellence Award from the University of Texas at Austin. He also was honored with a Dalton Pen Award for his work in many facets of communication.

Mr. Brown has been active in community affairs. At the Cleveland suburb of University Heights, he served on the Board of Zoning Appeals and Planning Commission before being elected to its City Council. Later moving to Rockville, Maryland, he was rotating chairman of its Board of Appeals. His efforts at local activism earned him a Community Hero Award from the Montgomery County Civic Federation. Although not an attorney, he argued a zoning case before for Maryland Court of Appeals. (He lost.)

He has served on the Advisory Board of the Lifelong Learning Institute at Florida Atlantic University, as well as the Foundation Board of Montgomery College.

Mr. Brown almost failed out of Cleveland College of Western Reserve University before earning a bachelor's degree in journalism in 1950, with a minor in public speaking.
