After accruing more than 40 years of excellence in the field of cardiology, Dr. McDonough retired from his practice in 1998. Before starting his professional journey, he obtained a Bachelor of Science from Seattle College in 1952, a Master of Science in physiology at Creighton University the following year, and an MD in 1954 from the same institution. He served as chief of the hypertension section at their Washington, D.C. headquarters, and later as a resident in medicine in New Orleans from 1966 to 1968. He conducted a two-year senior fellowship in cardiology with the University of Washington, where he became an associate professor in 1970.
