Denise Sorese Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

    RIVERSIDE, CT, August 14, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Denise Sorese with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Sorese celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. After earning a Bachelor of Science in Education from the State University of New York at Cortland in 1967, Ms. Sorese graduated with a Master of Science in Reading from the University of Bridgeport in 1970. She also obtained a Certificate of Advanced Study (CAS) in Administration and Supervision from Fairfield University in 1993. Currently an Adjunct Professor in the capacity of Supervisor of Student Teachers at the University of Bridgeport, Ms. Sorese began her career as an early childhood teacher for the New York City Board of Education in 1965. She then became an elementary school teacher for the Greenwich Board of Education in 1967.

As her career progressed, Ms. Sorese became very interested in the importance of literacy and in 1972 began working for the Greenwich Board of Education as a Reading/Language Arts Specialist. Over the years, she expanded her role to include Learning Facilitator, Mainstreaming Associate, Staff Development Coach and Literacy Coach in order to facilitate teachers' literacy expertise and students' literacy growth. As Mainstreaming Associate, she performed as a liaison between special education and regular education staff.

After receiving her CAS in Administration and Supervision in 1993, Ms. Sorese became administrator of the Hamilton Avenue School after school academic program and summer school. She also was Program Coordinator and Director of Convent of Sacred Heart Summer Academy. Serving at the state level became a priority for Ms. Sorese when CT created various state teacher evaluation standards. She served as a CT Early Intervention Technical Advisor, BEST Assessor, Portfolio Scorer, TEAM Module Reflection Reviewer and TEAM Mentor. Currently, she is an edTPA consultant to student teachers.

For her professional accomplishments, she has been the recipient of awards in her field, including the prestigious International Literacy Association's Exemplary Reading Award for the State of Connecticut in 2002. She was also notably a State of CT Reading Grantee in both 1973 and 1974 to continue her work focusing on motivational reading. In addition, she is a published author and presenter in the field.

Passionate about helping people, Ms. Sorese believes that literacy is vital to success and is one of the most crucial life skills that can be taught. Concerned about world literacy, she became involved on an international level, including: USA People to People Literacy Ambassador to AU and NZ; University of Oxford, UK Round Table Reading First Participant; US Fund for UNICEF Teacher Training in Afghanistan local fundraising leader; and China Connection Comparative Education Program English teacher/mentor/coach to Chinese teachers and students in Xi'an, China.

Also interested in civic outreach, Ms. Sorese is a longstanding member of the Junior League of Greenwich and has been involved in many community projects. She now serves on the JLG Sustainer Advisory Council. She also served on various PTA and church Boards. She is past President of the Delta Kappa Gamma International Society, Alpha Chapter. She is also a member of the National Education Association, Connecticut Education Association and the International Literacy Association. Furthermore, Ms. Sorese has been honored in publications, including several editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who of American Women, and Who's Who in the World.
