Mr. McMakin is a retired chemical industry executive and consultant who, in 2003, established his own consulting company, ITMC, LLC specializing in improving IT management practices. He retired in 2007. He previously enjoyed a very rewarding career with Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. for close to 30 years. Hired in 1975 as a senior process engineer, he advanced to director of technology for plastics, general manager for business development, and general manager and vice president of the polyurethane and performance chemicals division at which time he was appointed to the internal management committee. In 1996, Mr. McMakin assumed the position of chief information officer.
As chief information officer Mr. McMakin oversaw a staff of approximately 1,000 professionals and global operations worldwide. During his tenure, he established and directed significant changes in the company's infrastructure, application approaches and information technology governance resulting in the reduction of unit cost and substantial improvements in the productivity and cost structure of the corporation. Mr. McMakin's contributions earned him a top 30 ranking in E-Business and a Gartner CIO Choice Award for Excellence in Information Technology in 2002.
Born in Wilmington, Delaware, Mr. McMakin pursued an education locally, at the University of Delaware in Newark. Graduating in 1968, he earned his Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering. In an effort to remain up to date with developments in his field, Mr. Makin is a member of several industry-related organizations, such as the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the Commercial Development Association and the Chemical Information Technology Association.
Mr. McMakin's avocational interest have led to membership with the Sons of the American Revolution and several private clubs as well. Furthermore, he has been active in various roles with the Allentown Branch of the Greater Valley YMCA, The Hillside School and the Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Hospital. A celebrated Marquis listee, Mr. McMakin has been featured in the 55th through 58th editions of Who's Who in America, the fifth edition of Who's Who in Science and Engineering and the 28th edition of Who's Who in Finance and Industry.
