SHREVEPORT, LA, August 22, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Thomas E. Staats, PhD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Staats celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Staats is a neuropsychologist and counseling psychologist specialist who has maintained his own private practice, Comprehensive Assessments, in Shreveport, Louisiana, as executive director since 1991. Boasting more than 45 years of diverse experience, he formerly served in the same capacity at Doctors Psychological Center in Shreveport and as director and chief psychologist at the Caddo Parish Diagnostic Center in Shreveport.

A sought-after consultant in his field, Dr. Staats has collaborated with Brentwood Hospital, the Charter Forest Hospital, the Shreveport Impairment and Disability Evaluation Center and the Louisiana State University (LSU) School of Medicine's department of psychiatry. Dr. Staats taught on LSU's Health Science Center campus as a clinical associate professor of psychiatry from 2003 to 2008. He formerly taught in the same capacity between 1992 and 2002 and was a clinical associate professor of psychology between 1977 and 1990 at LSU University. Further, Dr. Staats was an influential faculty member and educator for the American Academy of Disability Evaluating Physicians (now known as the International Academy of Independent Medical Evaluators) and the Health South Impairment Evaluation lecture series.

Writing extensively in his field, Dr. Staats has contributed multiple articles to various peer-reviewed journals and popular magazines in his area of expertise. He also authored a handbook, "Stress Management and Relaxation Training System Handbook" and two books, "Manual for the Stress Vector Analysis Test Series" in 1983 and "The Doctor's Guide to Instant Stress Relief" in 1987.

An alumnus of Emory University, Dr. Staats received a Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, in 1970. He then transferred to the University of Alabama, where he attained both a Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy in 1972 and 1974, respectively. He completed postdoctoral coursework at the University of Texas at Tyler in 1992. He has been a past diplomate of the American Board of Professional Disability Consultants and is a licensed psychologist in the state of Louisiana.

As an Eagle Scout, Dr. Staats won the Oak Ridge Nuclear Laboratory Biology 2 Award, which allowed him to attend Clemson University for one summer and perform research while he was still in high school. Dr. Staats credits his success to the professional influence of his father, Dr. Percy A. Staats, a nuclear scientist and member of the Manhattan Project during World War II. His father taught him the importance of a strong work ethic, that any job worth doing should be done well, and that only the best science available should be used in one's professional endeavors. Dr. Staats is also indebted to Dr. Phillip Osborne for teaching him expert witness skills and for furthering his interest in malingering research. In 1991, he received an award from the American Academy of Disability Evaluating Physicians. Dr. Staats has been cited in multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the South and Southwest and Who's Who in the World.
