In her academic efforts, Ms. Williams received a Bachelor of Arts in psychology at Spelman College in 1972. Continuing her education, she earned a Master of Arts in educational psychology at the University of Michigan in 1976 and a Doctor of Jurisprudence at Emory University in 1987. She has since been admitted to practice law by the Georgia Bar Association and the Supreme Court of the United States.

One of Ms. Williams' crowning achievements included a brief in a liability case that clarified the law on adding a party in Georgia. The case, Parks v. Hyundai, was to make automobiles much safer. For this, and other such achievements, Ms. Williams has been named to several professional publications in honor of her work, including Best Lawyers of America in 2017 and Lawyers of Distinction for 2017-2018. She also received an Outstanding Recent Graduate Award from Emory University Law School for 2002-2003.
