LOS ANGELES, CA, August 24, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Coach Field aka "Miss Val" has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

After earning a Bachelor of Arts in history from the University of California Los Angeles, Miss Val found success as the head coach for the UCLA Bruins Gymnastics team, for which she earned 7 NCAA Championships from 1990 to 2019. Additionally, she earned 18 PAC 12 Championships and 22 Regional Championships as the head coach and as an assistant coach. After 29 years as the UCLA Gymnastics Head Coach, she announced her retirement from coaching in the Fall of 2018. Though she has experienced much success over the years, the four time NCAA Coach of the Year believes that a majority of that success has come from making mistakes and learning from them. Instead of remonstrating herself, she utilized these errors as a learning opportunity, and endeavored to teach her student athletes those same valuable lessons.

As a young woman, Valorie was a ballet dancer and pursued that love immediately after graduating from high school. She had always dreamed of attending UCLA and found the opportunity when she discovered their need for a dance coach for their gymnastics team. A salaried position was not available at the time, but they gave her a full scholarship, and she has grown into an impressive leader with the internationally recognized institution. With many years of expertise behind her and much to teach the next generation, Miss Val authored her book "Life is Short, Don't Wait to Dance," through which she shares the secrets to obtaining success by being one's authentic self.

Due to her own battle with breast cancer, Miss Val devotes herself to various cancer organizations, including the Jonsson Cancer Center Foundation, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and Susan G. Komen for the Cure. In the course of her decades-long career as the UCLA Bruins coach, she was inducted into the UCLA Athletic Hall of Fame in 2010, recognized as the National Coach of the Year four times and in 2016 was named the PAC 12 Conference Coach of the Century. Looking forward, Miss Val intends to share her message on the necessity for society to change the way we define success and winning, and to advocate for teachers, parents and coaches to never strip the joy out of learning.
