With more than 25 years of experience in clinical psychotherapy to his credit, Dr. Colasurdo has become an authority in his industry and currently serves at a private practice in Brooklyn. Previously, he excelled as a copywriter and an associate creative director in Los Angeles and New York from 1979 to 1998, a forensic outreach specialist at Federated Group Services in 1995, a psychology extern at the Metropolitan Correctional Center from 1996 to 1997, a consultant for voir dire procedure for jury selection for NY Legal Aid from 1997 to 1998, and a psychotherapist at the Parnes Clinic at the Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology at Yeshiva University from 1998 to 2000. Commencing in 2004, Dr. Colasurdo has been a supervisory psychologist in approximately 15 nursing homes across the greater metropolitan area. It was during this experience that Dr. Colasurdo began to develop his working philosophy of offering an atmosphere of greater empathy and more natural, real, in-the-moment supportive stance in psychotherapy, to compensate for the sense of loss and abandonment in the patient population he was treating. More recently, Dr. Colasurdo was active as a psychological evaluator at Comprehensive Neuropsychological Services from 1999 to 2001, a member of the department of psychiatry of the Mount Sinai Health System from 1998 to 1999, and a psychology extern at the National Institute for the Psychotherapies from 1999 to 2000. He was a Level 1 Psychologist at Coler Specialty Hospital from 2001 to 2003, and a member of the mobile crisis management team at NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island from 2003 to 2004.

Prior to becoming an esteemed psychologist, Dr. Colasurdo pursued higher education with a Bachelor of Arts in journalism and political science from George Washington University in 1977. He earned a Master of Arts in forensic psychology from John Jay College of Criminal Justice in 1996 and a Doctor of Psychology from the Fekauf Graduate School of Psychology at Yeshiva University. Following these achievements, he was certified as a psychologist in the State of New York in 2004.

Outside of his professional responsibilities, Dr. Colasurdo remains informed of the changes and advancements in his industry through relevant organizations. He is a member of the American Psychological Association, the Division of Ageing and the APA Division 39. He recently received a certificate for completing a course in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, (MBSR), which has become a major linchpin in Dr. Colasurdo's mindfulness-based empathic approach. In regards to what initially drew him into his profession, Dr. Colasurdo credits an abiding desire to help others find peace of mind and stability in their lives. He is about to release a new website online: NYC Male Psychology, which is dedicated to finding ways to help men at a time in our history when the definition of masculinity is constantly evolving, and as a way to encourage more men to come into psychotherapy.
