Elizabeth Jennings Mills Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

    ZACHARY, LA, September 05, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Elizabeth Jennings Mills with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Mills celebrates many years' experience in her professional network and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. In her elementary grade years, Ms. Mills developed a love of art and writing which was encouraged by her mother. She graduated from Louise S. McGehee School in New Orleans, LA in 1965, later earning in 1969 a Bachelor of Arts in Art Education and English from Louisiana State University. She was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. In 1967 she married Wilmer R. Mills. She studied postgraduate work at LSU in studio art and lithography from 1991 to 1993.

Early in her career Ms. Mills served as a missionary to Brazil with the Presbyterian Church in the United States (P.C.U.S.) from 1972 to 1980, along with her agronomist husband and four young children. There, in the Amazon Basin, she learned from the Brazilians how to weave on a primitive floor loom. Returning to America in 1980, Ms. Mills taught at The St. Patrick's Episcopal Day School in Zachary, Louisiana from 1981 to 1983. She taught art privately from 1993 to 2003 and also worked as an orthodontic assistant from 1987 to 1991. From 1983 to 2016 she assisted her husband run their 900-acre cattle farm. During these years Ms. Mills pursued her love of portraiture, demonstrating weaving, and continuing independent art study. She exhibited at the Ziegler Museum in Jennings, LA in 1993, the Cabaret Theater in 1995, the Louisiana Art & Science Museum in 1996, and Magnolia Mound Plantation in 2000. She showed in two juried art shows in Grand Isle, LA in 2003 and 2004. Her weaving has been featured at The Bluebonnet Library, Baton Rouge in 2006, 2008, 2011, and a twenty-year retrospective in 2018, as well as the Pride and Zachary libraries in 1996, 2003, 2009, 2015 and 2018. She has been featured in The Baton Rouge Morning Advocate (1975, 2000, 2004, 2007 and 2013) and other publications. Ms. Mills participated in three local historical tours featuring her c. 1790s art studio house in 2004, 2008 and 2009.

Her family and their fishing camp at Grand Isle, LA, was featured in the British Broadcasting Company's documentary "Stephen Fry and The Great American Oil Spill" (2010 on YouTube) and her house and studio were in The Dukes of Hazard movie (2004-2005). Ms. Mills has continued to teach an adult Sunday School class for over 20 years at The Plains Presbyterian Church (P.C.A.) as well as participating in The Study Club (1995- ), The Reading Group (1996- ) and Weavers Anonymous (1994- ) and other groups. She still is active in weaving and painting, reading and gardening. She is the mother of four children: Wilmer (Wil) Hastings Mills (dec. 2011), Evelyn Kate Mills Irby, Virginia Mills Musacchia, John Jennings Mills, and seven grandchildren.

In light of her exceptional undertakings, Ms. Mills was selected for inclusion in the eighth edition of Who's Who in American Education and the 23rd edition of Who's Who in the World, as well as several editions of Who's Who in America and Who's Who of American Women.
