Dr. Logan T. Ludwig was named as a Health Sciences Librarian of the Year by the Midwest chapter of the Medical Library Association.

Dr. Ludwig began his career in education, teaching for a small school in 1969. While teaching, he concurrently managed the school's district library, a great source of enjoyment for him throughout his career. Deciding to follow his newly found passion, he continued his education by studying library science and thereafter acquired the position of the director of the Learning Resources Center at the Farmington Senior High School from 1973 to 1978. Following this appointment, Dr. Ludwig was hired as a media services library and assistant professor at Saint Louis University, advancing to the role of a health sciences library director in 1984.
Reaching the pinnacle of his career in 1986, Dr. Ludwig accepted a position at Loyola University Health System, at which he served as associate provost for health sciences and an associate dean for library and telehealth services until 2011. During his tenure, he was also involved with multiple committees such as the information systems committee, the educational resources committee, and the committee on academic computing. Dr. Ludwig has contributed over 30 building, technology, and library services articles to various professional journals, as well as chapters to several books. He also authored "In Service to One, In Service to All: A Brief History of the Illinois Knights of Columbus State Council Leadership, 1898-2011."
A proven leader in the industry, Dr. Ludwig founded the Illinois Telehealth Network (ITN) in 2003, a best practice collaboration of provider partners that work together to address widespread provider shortages in rural areas which resulted in barriers to healthcare access. The ITN notably provided support to its network members through training, resource sharing, technical support, collaborative grant efforts, networking and sharing economies of scale for purchasing. Dr. Ludwig has also been active as a consultant for 26 different national and international facilities and has served as an adjunct professor at Dominican University in Riverside, Illinois.
Dr. Ludwig received a Bachelor of Science in English at Southern Illinois University in 1969. Returning to college several years later, he acquired a Master of Library Science at the University of Missouri in 1973 and a Doctor of Philosophy in higher education at St. Louis University in 1983. Dr. Ludwig is a certified media technician and a certified teacher in Illinois and Missouri.
He became involved with the Knights of Columbus in 1974 and rose to the position of Illinois State Deputy 2004-2005. After retiring in 2011, Dr. Ludwig served as the supreme treasurer for two years and deputy supreme knight for three years, until 2016. As a supreme officer, he was responsible for the financial oversight of the Fortune 1,000 company, which included $25 billion in assets, the largest pastoral care initiative undertaken by the Order, the Saint John Paul II National Shrine.
Instrumental in giving back by partnering with the Special Olympics, Dr. Ludwig's organization was able to provide soccer fields to the organization in Italy, which ultimately led to other countries becoming involved. As a result, he co-established the Special Olympics Unified Football Tournament Team in Rome in 2016. Dr. Ludwig also served on the board of directors of the Knights of Columbus supreme council between 2007 and 2011 and the health sciences communications board between 2002 and 2008. In addition to his work with the Knights of Columbus, Dr. Ludwig is a secretary emeritus of the McGivney Center of Hope and Healing since 2004 and an advisory board member of Aid for Women since 2011.
Active with several industry-related organizations, Dr. Ludwig is a past president of the Association of Biomedical Communications Directors. Likewise, he is a member of the American Telemedicine Association, the Academy of Health Information Professionals, and the Illinois Broadband Development Board. Dr. Ludwig, moreover, is an elected fellow of the Academy of Health Sciences.
Dr. Ludwig was named as a Health Sciences Librarian of the Year by the Midwest chapter of the Medical Library Association in 2008, and received a William and Virginia Beatty Service Award during the same year. Other recognitions include a Golden Raster from the Health and Sciences Communications Association in 2004 and a Literary Award from the Journal of Biomedical Communications in 2001. Additionally, he secured an Integrated Advanced Information Management Systems planning grant from the National Library of Medicine between 2000 and 2002 where he served as a co-investigator. A celebrated Marquis listee, Dr. Ludwig has been featured in the 64th edition of Who's Who in America.
