Backed by years of professional experience, Ms. Tietjen has excelled as the president and a chief executive officer of her own business, Technically Speaking Inc., since 2001. The company provides consulting services to electric utilities. Prior to this engagement, she contributed as a director of the Women in Engineering program at the University of Colorado Boulder for three years, having previously worked as a principal at RCG/Hagler Bailly, Inc., in Boulder between 1992 and 1995. She served as an assistant vice president of Stone & Webster Management Consultant, intermittently from 1984 to 1997. Earlier in her career, Ms. Tietjen was associated with Duke Power Co. in Charlotte, North Carolina, as a planning engineer, later joining Mobil Oil Corp., as a planning analyst for the mining and coal division in Denver from 1976 until 1984.

In addition to her primary endeavors, Ms. Tietjen contributed to several advisory boards and committees including the Coal Market Strategies Conference, the Higher Education and Advanced Technical Center, and the Virginia Engineering Foundation, among others. Civically, she has dedicated her time to many local organizations, such as the Rocky Mountain Electrical League, Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic, Arapahoe Library Foundation, the Mile Hi Girl Scout Council, the National Academy of Engineering, and the University of Colorado. A pronounced voice in the industry, Ms. Tietjen has authored a myriad of related works that were published in multiple professional journals and displayed at conferences.

Of her many awards, she rates induction into the Colorado Women's Hall of Fame to be the highlight of her career. She is proud to have sat on the board of directors for the Georgia Transmission Corporation since 1997 and Merrick & Company since 2010. To remain aware of changes in the field, Ms. Tietjen maintains affiliation with the Society of Women Engineers, the Women's Forum of Colorado, and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.

A graduate of the University of Virginia, Ms. Tietjen earned a Bachelor of Science in applied mathematics with a minor in electrical engineering in 1976. Soon thereafter, she secured a Master of Business Administration from the University of North Carolina in Charlotte in 1979. Outside of work, Ms. Tietjen enjoys tennis, needlework, and traveling in her spare time.
