Dr. Linda Sand Guest Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Throughout her career, Dr. Linda Sand Guest has given innumerable conference presentations on educational reform and curriculum development across the nation.

    FORT COLLINS, CO, September 11, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Linda Sand Guest with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Guest celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As an accomplished educator, Dr. Sand Guest has served as an adjunct faculty member for the School of Education at Colorado State University, Regis University, Leslie College, Colorado University, and the University of Northern Colorado. From 1998 to 2005, she served as the Director of Curriculum at Eagle Rock School and Professional Development Center, a residential high school in Estes Park, Colorado, fully funded by American Honda. Students are invited to attend the school when they have failed to find success in traditional high school programs. The school is dedicated to hands-on learning, innovative curricula and to sharing successful and innovative approaches to education with other educators around the nation including up to three thousand visiting educators a year. A complement of interns assist the teaching staff each year as a means of learning to become educators themselves.

Prior to working at Eagle Rock, Dr. Sand Guest served from 1994 to 1998 as Project Coordinator for The Rocky Mountain Teacher Education Collaborative (RMTEC), a coalition of six schools of higher education in Colorado, funded over five years by the National Science Foundation through a multi-million dollar grant, working to improve the pedagogical practices of professors of mathematics and science. Between 1991 and 1994, Dr. Sand Guest served as an Assistant Professor of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Denver.

Always interested in educational reform, Dr. Sand Guest taught junior high in Denver Public Schools, East Maine School District in the suburbs of Chicago and Poudre School District in Fort Collins, Colorado. While at East Maine, she taught with a team of teachers dedicated to bringing seventh and eighth grade students who tested two to four years behind grade level in one or more subjects up to/or beyond the grade level of their peers by the time they entered high school. The Delta 7/8 team proved highly successful.

While teaching at Lesher Junior High School in Poudre School District in Fort Collins, Colorado, Dr. Sand Guest developed two outstanding programs. The Humanities Program, a double-period class, dedicated to teaching American history, English literature, and art and music appreciation was recognized as an outstanding program by the National Council of Teachers of English. An additional program, Innovative Nurtured Quests Utilizing Independent Research by Youth (INQUIRY), also received recognition as an exceptional program dedicated to serving the educational needs of gifted and talented students.

Prior to becoming an educator, Dr. Sand Guest pursued her own education at Colorado State University, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in English in 1967. She continued studying at CSU and other universities, completing postgraduate coursework and eventually obtaining a Master of Education in Instruction in 1983 also from Colorado State University. Concluding her academic endeavors at Harvard University, Dr. Sand Guest graduated with a Doctorate of Education in Teaching, Curriculum and Learning Environments in 1990. While attending Harvard, she compiled a collection of materials for teaching Social Studies for the Gutman Library and served as an editor for a book on educational reform with her advisor, Dr. Roland Barth.

Throughout her career, Dr. Sand Guest has given innumerable conference presentations on educational reform and curriculum development across the nation. Dr. Sand Guest participated as an active member of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development serving as an instructor in the Western area for an educational reform program entitled Assisting Change in Education (ACE). Additionally, she was an active member of the American Educational Research Association, the National Council of Teachers of English, and Phi Delta Kappa. Notably, she was runner up for the Teacher of the Year Award in Colorado in 1983. An expert in her field, Dr. Sand Guest has been featured in the Registry of Outstanding Professionals and has been recognized in editions of Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who of American Women, and Who's Who in America.
