Riess, Esq., with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. Mr. Riess is the founder and a managing partner of the Law Offices of George F. Riess & Associates. Established in 2000 in Metairie, he is a celebrated attorney of nearly 50 years. In addition to representing clients in the courtroom, he has spent numerous years as an adjunct professor of law and trial advocacy at his alma mater, Tulane University Law School in New Orleans, between 1987 and 2008. Mr. Riess also served on the board of directors for Plaquemines Oil & Development Company in New Orleans.

After college, Mr. Riess accepted the position of a managing partner at Johnson & Riess Law Firm in New Orleans. Thereafter, he partnered with another local, prestigious law firm, Monroe & Lemann Law Firm, at which he remained for the subsequent 20 years. Moreover, he was a partner at Polack, Rosenberg, Endom & Riess, LLP, until 1996, whereupon he established his own firm four years later.

Enjoying the various disciplines which trial lawyers engage in, Mr. Riess equally appreciates taking depositions and trying cases in appellate court. One of his most challenges cases, he recalled, was Dottie Adams versus several major oil companies. Partnering with a team of attorneys that gradually diminished because the case had been drawn out for 15 years, it was a naturally occurring radioactive material case, better known as a NORM case, which had caused cancer.

Mr. Riess originally studied music and was an excellent piano and harpsichord player. However, he enjoyed politics and helping people in equal measure. After acquiring a Bachelor of Arts in English and history at Tulane University in 1965, he was accepted to Louisiana State University, at which he completed a Doctor of Jurisprudence with honors in 1969. Ranking 20 out of 122 students, while in pursuit of his degree he was notably elected by the law school to serve as the chairman of the Flory Student Trial Board, and was awarded publication by the Wayne State Law Review for an article he wrote for his Foreign and Comparative Law course. Mr. Riess has since been admitted to the Louisiana and Michigan Bar Associations and the Eastern, Western, and Middle Districts of the U.S. District Court of Louisiana.

Mr. Riess is an elected fellow of the Louisiana State Bar Foundation, and is likewise a member of the American Bar Association, the American Judicature Society, the Federal Bar Association, the Louisiana Associate Defense Counsel, and the Louisiana State Bar Association. Adjacent to his career, he is active in church, being a former parishioner and a vestry member at St. Martin's Episcopal Church. Mr. Riess is also a member and an associate of the New Orleans Friends of Music, as well as a published poet.

A grant recipient of the Ford Foundation in 1969, Mr. Riess is a celebrated Marquis listee as well. He has been featured in close to 20 editions of Who's Who, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, and Who's Who in American Law. Mr. Riess is the proud parent of four children, through whom he is the grandfather of four grandchildren.
