Some of his specific interests include biomass assessments for bio energy applications and hydraulic modeling of flows through wetlands. Earlier in his career, Dr. Tollner excelled in research and education as a research specialist with Auburn University, a teaching assistant with Texas A&M University and research engineer and specialist at the University of Kentucky during the 1970s.

In a career filled with highlights, Dr. Tollner is especially proud of being the first to use an x-ray tomographic scanner devoted solely to agricultural research tasks, as well as pioneering research into the use of vegetative filter strips for sediment control, and research for an alternative, non-aerobic composting process for farm and municipal wastes. A registered professional engineer, he pursued an education at the University of Kentucky, earning a Bachelor of Science in 1972 and Master of Science in agricultural engineering in 1974. Dr. Tollner subsequently obtained a Doctor of Philosophy in the same field at Auburn University in the early 1980s.

Dr. Tollner retains his professional alignment with a number of industry organizations, such as the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineering, the American Society of Agricultural Engineers, the American Society of Engineering Education, the American Society of Civil Engineers and the National Society of Professional Engineers. Previously, he also dedicated himself to his community through the Peachtree City Condominium Association and the Oconee County Land Use and Transportation Committee. With a plethora of knowledge at his disposal, Dr. Tollner authored two editions of "Introduction to Natural Resource Engineering" and more than 150 articles in professional journals and conferences, including the Royal Journal of Statistics, Ecological Modeling and the online proceedings of the 2016 International ASABE Water Quality Conference through the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineering.

Due to his professional excellence, Dr. Tollner was recognized as the Engineer of the Year in Education. Accepting the Ron Hart Memorial Leadership Award in 2006, he was featured in several publications such as Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in American Education and Who's Who in Science and Engineering. Looking toward the future, Dr. Tollner intends to be retired but remain engaged in the professional community.
