CHEVY CHASE, MD, September 16, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Melanie Choukas-Bradley with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Choukas-Bradley celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Ms. Choukas-Bradley is an award-winning author of several books and a naturalist who often leads trips and tours throughout the lush forests of her local landscape with the Audubon Naturalist Society, U.S. Botanic Garden, Nature Conservancy and other organizations. A career that was inspired by a desire to learn about the trees of D.C. after relocating to the state capital in search of a job, Ms. Choukas-Bradley was later determined to write about all she had discovered.

Beginning her career in 1975 in New Hampshire as a reporter and news director for Radio Station WBRL, Ms. Choukas-Bradley moved to D.C. shortly thereafter and became a research assistant with the Commerce Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives. By 1978, she went on her own and began her career as a writer. She has since become a frequent contributor of The Washington Post and other publications, and has served as a guest expert on several National Public Radio shows, including "The Diane Rehm Show" and "Morning Edition." Additionally, Ms. Choukas-Bradley has lent her expertise as a botany instructor at the Graduate School USA and as a programs and education director for Celebrate Rural Montgomery.

Ms. Choukas-Bradley is the author of the award-winning book, "A Year in Rock Creek Park: The Wild, Wooded Heart of Washington, D.C." She has also authored three other critically acclaimed books: "City of Trees: The Complete Field Guide to the Trees of Washington, D.C." in 2008, "An Illustrated Guide to Eastern Woodland Wildflowers and Trees: 350 Plants Observed at Sugarloaf Mountain, Maryland" in 2004 and 2007, and "Sugarloaf: The Mountain's History, Geology, and Natural Lore" in 2003. Ms. Choukas-Bradley recently released "The Joy of Forest Bathing: Reconnect with Wild Places & Rejuvenate Your Life" in 2018. It is an enticing and comprehensive introduction to forest bathing, or Shinrin-yoku, in Japan, which is the meditative practice of connecting with nature and disconnecting from the distractions of daily life.

Initially studying at Pierce College, Ms. Choukas-Bradley transferred to the University of Vermont, where she acquired a Bachelor of Arts in English in 1974. She later completed postgraduate studies at the U.S. Department of Agriculture Graduate School in 1995. She has been a certified forest therapy guide through the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy since 2016.

Involved locally, Ms. Choukas-Bradley served on the Town of Chevy Chase tree ordinance board. She was vice president and board of directors member of the Maryland Native Plant Society, panel discussion moderator of the D.C. Environmental Film Festival, and Earth Day chair of the Sugarloaf Citizens Association.

Ms. Choukas-Bradley is a member of the Montgomery Countryside Alliance Advisory Committee and the Capitol Nature Advisory Board. She is a member of the Cosmos Club of Washington. A former member of the Capitol Steps adult synchronized skating team, Ms. Choukas-Bradley was also a participant at the National Championships between 2001 and 2002. She was a 2003-2004 and 2004-2005 member of the Capital Classics synchronized skating team.

Ms. Choukas-Bradley has secured grants from the American Forest Institute and Sugarloaf Regional Trails. She received a 2015 IPPY Award, a Silver Medal for Mid-Atlantic Non-Fiction, for her book "A Year in Rock Creek Park."
