An award-winning television producer and a consultant, Mr. Johnson retired in 1990 from his positions as an assistant program director and an executive producer at Station KHJ-TV Channel 9 in Los Angeles after nine years in his role. Originally hired by the station in 1962, he worked as a television stage manager and a set designer before eventually landing the roles of a producer, a director, and a production manager. Mr. Johnson worked for KHJ-TV his entire career.
Mr. Johnson was the executive producer of the television programs "Off-Hand," "Teen Talk," "Taking 'High' Out of High School" and "School Beat," all of which received Emmy awards throughout the 1980s. During his career, he also directed multiple plays, including "Kiss Me Kate," "Peter Pan," "Guys & Dolls," "A Thousand Clowns," and "The Most Happy Fellow." Further, Mr. Johnson served as the executive director of the Conejo Players Theater in Thousand Oaks, and found success as an arts commissioner for the City of Thousand Oaks.
Invested in his community, Mr. Johnson was a member of the Thousand Oaks Cultural Center planning committee and the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza. He chaired and served as the campaign director for Alliance for the Arts and was the chairman of the board of CMATO, the California Museum of Art Thousand Oaks. Mr. Johnson is likewise a member of the Academy of TV Arts and Sciences, the Arts Council of Conejo Valley, and the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) Theater Arts Alumni Association.
An alumnus of UCLA, Mr. Johnson received a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in theater arts in 1959 and 1961, respectively. Notably, he served in the U.S. Naval Reserves between 1954 and 1957. The recipient of an Arts Advocate Award from the Conejo Players Theater and a Twilight Award from Gold Coast Performing Arts, Mr. Johnson is a celebrated Marquis listee. He has been featured in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Entertainment, and Who's Who in the Media and Communication.
