Blaisdell with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Blaisdell celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Mr. Blaisdell is a celebrated director and documentary filmmaker credited with more than 80 films, including "Big Sur: The Way It Was," "By Daylight & In Dreams," and the acclaimed film series "Poetry in America." A skilled bassoon player, he began his career by pursuing a degree in musical performance, finishing an Associate of Arts in music from Monterey Peninsula College in California, in 1955, before a vehicle accident limited his ability to play. Mr. Blaisdell's mother and brother were photographers, and he was encouraged to return to school, majoring in photojournalism. He completed coursework at San Francisco State University and San Jose State University from 1956-1961 during which time he also served with the United States Coast Guard from 1957 to 1960.

Discovering a passion and talent for cinematography during his time studying photojournalism, Mr. Blaisdell spent seven years doing freelance photography and cinematographic work throughout California from 1960 to 1967. From 1967 to 1984, he became the president of Black Lion Film Productions Ltd., where he created numerous promotional and education short films and took a film trip to East Africa in 1974; he notes that the two months he spent there filming wildlife was a major highlight in his career. In 1970, he served as 2nd unit director/cinematographer for the CBS series "Hot Dog" featuring Woody Allen and other NBC documentaries for Lee Mendelson Productions. He worked as a screenwriter and director for Summit Entertainment LLC from 1988 to 1991, also serving as a faculty member at the Victor D'Amico Institute of Art in Amagansett, New York, from 1990 to 1991. Presently, Mr. Blaisdell is active as the president of Robert Blaisdell Productions, a role he has held since 1984.

Having accomplished much over the course of his career, Mr. Blaisdell's films are notably included in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art and in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He has also received numerous honors and accolades for his filmmaking, including Cine Awards from the Chicago International Film Festival, the San Francisco International Film Festival and the Film Festival of Columbus. Additionally, Mr. Blaisdell has been recognized with a Short Film Showcase Award from the National Endowment for the Arts.
