A former practice area team leader of the firm's complex commercial litigation practice, Mr. Tompkins has since become one of the leaders of the firm's Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) practice.

He soon after acquired a Master of Public Policy at Harvard Kennedy School in 1975 and a Doctor of Jurisprudence at Harvard University in 1975. A member of the American Bar Association, Mr. Tompkins remains active on the criminal justice and litigation sections. One of the founding members of the association's white-collar crime committee, he is also the former chairman of the task force on computer crime. Further, Mr. Tompkins is a member of the Virginia Bar Association, the D.C. Bar Association and Phi Beta Kappa.
