Russell Evett Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

With more than 60 years of experience to his credit, Dr. Evett currently holds a post on the Boards of the Norfolk Historic Society, the Boydton Society of Randolph-Macon Alumni, and Ghent United Methodist Church. Premedical education was at Randolph-Macon College where he was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate with a BS degree in chemistry. He was valedictorian of his class. He achieved his MD Degree from the Medical College of Virginia in 1957. At the beginning of his career, he interned at DePaul Hospital, and took residency training as a Fellow in Internal Medicine at The Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN, and earned an MS Degree in medicine from the University of Minnesota in 1963. He became a Diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine in 1967, was elected to Fellowship in the American College of Physicians in 1983 and continues in active membership. Engaged in the private practice of Internal Medicine from 1964 to 1998, he also served as Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School and enjoyed appointments on the medical staffs of Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, Leigh Memorial Hospital and DePaul Hospital. He remains an active member of the Norfolk Academy of Medicine, The Medical Society of Virginia and The American Medical Association. He is especially proud to have served as President of The Medical Society of Virginia and as a member of its delegation to the AMA House of Delegates.

He served as a member of the United States Naval Reserve from 1957 to 1963 with active duty from 1958 to 1960 including being stationed as medical officer aboard the USS Boxer (LPH-4).

Additional professional appointments have included membership on the board of directors of Virginia Health Information and the Medical College of Virginia Foundation.

For his outstanding work in medicine, he was honored to receive the Laureate Award of the Virginia Chapter of the American College of Physicians in 1997. He has also been honored with features in such publications as Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare and Who's Who in American Education.
