Dr. Dzioba attended the University of Western Ontario, graduating in 1966 with a Bachelor of Science. A gifted math and chemistry student, he had initially planned to pursue civil engineering but quickly found himself bored with the engineering workflow, and reconsidered his focus. He transferred to a smaller school and decided to pursue medicine based on the mentorship of an administrator. He returned to the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Western Ontario, earning a Doctor of Medicine in 1970.
Dr. Dzioba's mechanical knowledge and cross-disciplinary background pushed him toward a specialty in orthopedics, which he found a natural fit. He completed a residency at the University of Toronto in 1976 and spent several summers working at the Banting Institute, a laboratory noted for its involvement in the discovery of insulin. Dr. Dzioba is an orthopedic surgeon at the University of Arizona and holds medical licenses in the states of Texas and Arizona.
Dr. Dzioba was a Ruth Jackson visiting professor of orthopedic surgery in 1986 and has remained an in-demand speaker and lecturer in his field throughout his career. He holds the original design for the Uni Plate, a medical device used in cervical spine support that streamlined surgical implantation and patient recovery outcomes, and is currently working on technology with the potential to replace spinal fusion surgery in some patients.
As a testament to his success, Dr. Dzioba was elected to The Orthopedic Guild in 1985 and has been named to Best Doctors in America on myriad occasions.
