Dr. Allan D. Pierce found success as the founder and president of the Cape Cod Institute for Science and Engineering beginning in 2017.

Supported by an extensive professional and educational background, Dr. Pierce found success as the founder and president of the Cape Cod Institute for Science and Engineering beginning in 2017. He was also bestowed the title of professor emeritus of Boston University upon his retirement in 2012. Commencing his career with the Rand Corp. in Santa Monica, California, as a staff researcher from 1961 to 1963, he went on to attain the position of senior staff scientist at the Avco Corp. in Wilmington, Massachusetts, between 1963 and 1966. Soon thereafter, Dr. Pierce began his tenure with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, holding the posts of assistant and associate professor from 1966 to 1973.

From 1973 to 1976, Dr. Pierce taught mechanical engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, further progressing to regent's professor from 1976 until his departure in 1988. Other appointments include being named the William E. Leonhard chair in engineering with Pennsylvania State University, serving as the chair for the department of aerospace and mechanical engineering at Boston University, and active as the editor-in-chief of the Acoustical Society of America between 1973 and 2014. Additionally, Dr. Pierce was associated with the University of Massachusetts in Dartmouth as an adjunct professor between 2015 and 2018.

Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Pierce attended New Mexico State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in 1957. He concluded his academic efforts in 1962, after receiving a Doctor of Philosophy from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. An expert and respected voice in the industry, he has written such works as "Acoustics: An Introduction to its Physical Principles and Applications," which was first published in 1981. Dr. Pierce also served as the editor for the monograph series "Physical Acoustics" and for the Journal of Computational Acoustics between 1988 and 1999.

As a testament to his success, Dr. Pierce has been the recipient of the Senior United States Scientist Award from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, a Certification of Recognition from NASA, and the Per Bruel Gold Medal for noise control and acoustics from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. Likewise, he has been awarded fellowships from the National Science Foundation, the Shell Oil Co., and the United States Department of Transportation. An elected fellow of the Acoustical Society of America, Dr. Pierce has been presented with a number of accolades from the organization including the Silver and Gold Medals, the Rossing Prize in acoustics education and a Distinguished Service Award.
