MANTI, UT, September 25, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Hellmut Hans Doelling, PhD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Doelling celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

In December 2018 Hellmut Doelling was presented the Utah Governor's Distinguished Service Award for an amazing 65 years of service to the Utah Geological Survey (UGS) and State of Utah. Hellmut started his long career in 1953 when the UGS's (then the Utah Geological and Mineralogical Survey) first director hired him part-time as a student draftsman. Harry Truman was president at the time! He worked for 8 years as a draftsman, then for 37 years as a Staff Geologist, Economic Geology Program manager, Mapping Program Manager, and Senior Geologist. Ad-ditionally, Dr. Doelling was an assistant professor of Geology at Midwestern University in Wichita Falls, Texas from 1964 to 1966. Today, he is an independent mapping geologist located in Manti, Utah, still submitting and getting geologic maps published for the UGS.

In his early career, he explored, inventoried, and described nearly every uranium mine in the State of Utah; he has probably been inside more abandoned and operating Utah mines and prospects than any other person (more than two thousand). He also published papers on copper, aragonite, gypsum, fluorspar, tar sands, variscite, industrial miner¬als, diatomaceous earth, phosphate, and methane. In the late I960s, Hellmut secured funds to study, inventory, and encourage development of Utah coal, and walked out and measured nearly every coal seam in the state. The result was a three-volume Utah Coal Monograph, the leading document on Utah coal for over 40 years. Hellmut authored or co-authored more than 225 geologic maps and nearly 300 UGS and UGA publications including some of Utah's national and state parks. In short, Hellmut has devoted his entire professional life to the geology of Utah.

Dr. Doelling served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953 as a draftee, achieving the rank of Corporal. There he was inspired to become a geologist by coming face to face with interesting rocks while crawling through the infiltration course at Fort Bliss, Texas. Dr. Doelling earned both a Bachelor of Science (1956) and Doctor of Philosophy (1964) degrees from the University of Utah. Dr. Doelling is an honorary member (1998) of the Utah Geological Association (UGA), serving as its president in 1990, and in various years as its field trip chairman. Among other industry-related organizations, he is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the Society of Economic Geologists (SEG), Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society, and the Utah Geological Association.

In addition to the Governor's Distinguished Service Award, he previously received the Utah Governor's Medal for Science and Technology in 1993 and the UGA Lehi Hintze Award for outstanding contributions to the Geology of Utah in 2004. In 2012, in recognition of his contributions to Utah Geology, the dinosaur Yurgovuchia doellingi was named after him. Dr. Doelling married Gerda Scherwinski in 1960 and is the father of seven children: David, Barbara, Jedediah, Doris, Peggy, Teresa, and Matthew.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to his profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Dr. Doelling has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
