Larry Stone has been Inducted into the Prestigious Marquis Who's Who Biographical Registry

    SALEM, OR, October 02, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Larry Stone has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

With more than 45 years of professional experience to his credit, Mr. Stone excelled as the founder of Lingua Franca Wines since 2015, as well as the dean of wine studies at the International Culinary Center since 2012. Prior to his current roles, he worked as the president and the general manager of Evening Land Vineyards from 2010 to 2012, where he had been active as their vineyard and business consultant from 2006 to 2010. The founder and president of Sirita, LLC, from 1997 to 2010, Mr. Stone found further success as the general manager and the gérant of Rubicon Estate from 2006 to 2010 and as a sommelier and manager with Rubicon Restaurant and as partner in Drew Nieport's Myriad Restaurant group. Partners in Rubicon were Robin Williams, Robert De Niro and Francis Ford Coppola. While Larry was affiliated, Myriad developed Rubicon, Nobu Restaurants and the first W Hotels restaurant programs.

Mr. Stone previously served as the sommelier and manager in Chicago at Charlie Trotter's Restaurant from 1989 to 1993, when it became known as the most highly innovative restaurant in the US. Before that he was the Sommelier at the Four Season Hotel Chicago and the Chicago Ritz-Carlton from 1988 to 1989. He also began writing a column for the Chicago Tribune in 1988 which he continued to 1993. He later wrote a monthly wine feature for Playboy Japan from 1994 to 2000. He had flourished before being transferred to Chicago as the head sommelier at the Four Seasons Olympic Hotel in Seattle from 1984 to 1989, and as the consultant to the Sheraton Hotel Seattle's Fuller's restaurant from 1983 to 1985. He began his sommelier career at the Red Cabbage restaurant in 1981 and was a judge for the Enological Society of the Pacific Northwest, the Los Angeles County Fair and other major competitions from 1976 to 1984.

Mr. Stone initially pursued an education with the University of Washington, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, in comparative literature. He concluded his studies with the aforementioned school, earning a Master of Arts in comparative literature. Subsequently Mr. Stone held a number of positions with the University of Washington, such as a Teaching Assistant from 1974 to 1979, and as an Acting Instructor from 1979 to 1981 in German, English, Comparative Literature and Film Studies.

Throughout his career, Mr. Stone has been celebrated for his exemplary contributions to his field. The first American to win the Best International Sommelier Competition in Paris and gain the title of Maître Sommelier de France, he also became the 9th American to earn the title of Master Sommelier, passing all parts of the examination in one week. He was awarded the Krug Cup for this achievement, signifying the best performance of the year in the Masters Examination. He has subsequently mentored dozens of successful sommeliers and restaurateurs, among them Rajat Parr (Secrets of the Sommeliers), Chefs Stuart Brioza (State Bird SF and The Progress) and Ryan Hardy (Charlie Bird, Legacy Records, Pasquale Jones).

Lingua Franca is Mr. Stone's venture in the Willamette Valley of Oregon with Dominique Lafon of Meursault, based upon an exceptional vineyard site in the cooler Eola-Amity Hills region. Their team, led by young Thomas Savre, who has work experience both at Domaine de la Romanee-Conti and Domaine Dujac, explores New World terroir with an Old World dedication to expressing the vineyard site. Lingua Franca has been featured on Wine Spectator's Top 100 Wines of the Year list and the Top 50 Wines of the Year by Wines & Spirits every year since its inception. Wines & Spirits also has named Lingua Franca as one of the Top 100 Wineries in the World and Robb Report scored Lingua Franca Mimi's Mind as one of the 14 Best Wines in the World in 2019. In the past Food Arts honored Mr. Stone with a Silver Spoon Award and Food and Wines of France championed him as the Best Sommelier in the Pacific Northwest, Best Sommelier in America and finally Best Sommelier in the World.
