Munyon with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. Mr. Munyon began his professional journey in 1964 as a field engineer for Burroughs Corporation in Pueblo, CO, Casper, WY and Madison, WI. In 1973, he moved his family to Watertown, WI to attend Maranatha Baptist Bible College. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree four years later.
In January 1980 Mr. Munyon was appointed as Legislative Representative for the Wisconsin Association of Christian Schools (WACS) serving in that capacity until 2002. In August of 1980, he joined the staff of Calvary Baptist Church and School in Watertown as administrator of Calvary Baptist Christian School, a position he held until July of 1986. During this period he was also very active in monitoring legislation at the state and national level dealing with Christian schools, private education, religious freedom, and moral and traditional family value issues. He was also active in the authoring and the passage of Wisconsin Act 512 which was signed into law in May of 1984. This legislation defined a private school and legalized home-based private educational programs.
On July 1, 1986 he resigned to assume the duties of Executive Director of the Wisconsin Association of Christian Schools (WACS), serving in that capacity until August 1, 1989. His main responsibilities were to monitor educational issues and serve as a liaison between private schools and the Department of Public Instruction as well as the legislature and keep interested parties informed of issues impacting them. Mr. Munyon was a part of the Minute Man program of the American Association of Christian Schools (AACS) to lobby on behalf of WACS in Washington, D.C., which is a state affiliate of the AACS.
In April of 1986 he founded The Christian Research Institute of Wisconsin (CRI), the name of which was changed to The Family Research Institute of Wisconsin (FRI) on January 1, 1994. FRI's mission was to inform, educate and involve the general public and policymakers in the development of public policy that strengthens the stability of marriage and family. FRI was a 501-c-3 (h) tax exempt, educational, informational research institute looking at public policy from a Judeo-Christian, pro-family perspective. Mr. Munyon resigned from FRI in May of 2000 to found and head up WI Capitol Watch. WI Capitol Watch was a 501-c-4 non-profit organization analyzing political and social issues and promoting public policy that enabled a stronger stand for pro-family traditional values and public policy initiatives. He served with this organization until December 2013 when it was terminated.
From November 1989 to April 1990, he was appointed to and served on the Governor's Task Force on Children and Families. From January 1990 to December 1990, he was appointed to and served on The Commission of Schools For The 21st Century. From March 1991 to 1998, he was appointed to and served on the Governor's Commission on Families and Children. From March 1992 to November 1995, he was elected to and served on the Executive Board of Directors of Baptists For Life of WI. In April of 2000, he was elected to a 2-year term as Jefferson County Board Supervisor. He was subsequently re-elected to 3 consecutive terms, serving until November 2007 when he resigned (as he had moved out of the district). In August of 2000, he was elected to and served on the Board of Directors of Wisconsin Coalition Against Gambling Expansion (WCAGE). In September of 2002, he ran for State Assembly in the 38th District receiving 41% of the vote in the primary election.
In December of 2010, Mr. Munyon, along with two others, became a founding director, treasurer, and secretary of the Rock River Patriots, an organization in Jefferson County, WI. This organization is an activist group that believes in individual liberty and that all men are created equal and endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights. That the sole purpose of government is to protect individual liberty and those unalienable rights. Because of that belief, the organization is dedicated to bringing the federal government back to the limits placed on it by the U.S. Constitution. The organization believes in restoring the sovereignty of the States to their rightful place as defined by the 10th Amendment. To that end. its mission is to provide education, a forum for vetting candidates for office, organization, and activism. Mr. Munyon is currently serving in this capacity.
In May of 2000, he was honored by Maranatha Baptist Bible College as Alumni of the Year in Christian Ministry. In October of 2008 he was honored by the Wisconsin Association of Christian Schools (WACS) for the 25th anniversary of legislation introduced to define a private school in that state. Over the years, he often lectured on behalf of the local Parent Teacher Association and the Christian Home Educators Association.
Mr. Munyon has been a resident of Watertown, WI for 46 years. He has been married to his wife Sandra for 59 years. They have two sons: the oldest is a graduate of Maranatha Baptist Bible College and Ball State University. He is married with one son and is employed at Konecrane in Watertown, WI. Their youngest son is a graduate of Bob Jones University and Marian College. He is married with two sons and employed at CL&D Graphics in Oconomowoc, WI.
His avocations include hunting and fishing.
