Ms. LeBrecht is a retired reporter who led an impressive career in the industry for just under 40 years. During the latter half of her profession, she worked for the Associated Press Broadcast News Center for 23 years until 2004, where she covered various topics from storms and wars to presidential campaigns. During her tenure with the organization, she would often do signoffs on Capitol Hill, the Pentagon, the White House and the State Department. During her tenure at the Pentagon, she covered the bombing on September 11, 2001. She travelled to Jordan and Saudi Arabia during the buildup of the first Gulf War and then the Pentagon where she covered the first and second gulf wars. In addition, she travelled to Europe and the Middle East with Defense Secretaries Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld.

As AP senior correspondent, Ms. LeBrecht also covered stories such as the D.C. sniper shootings and trials and the Timothy McVeigh trial in Denver. Notably, she made trips with Presidents Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, and covered every presidential campaign and national convention from 1984 through the primaries in 2004.

After beginning her career in 1967 as a public affairs reporter with WBT and WBTV in Charlotte, North Carolina, Ms. LeBrecht subsequently worked as a freelance reporter in Toronto, a reporter for KYW Newsradio in Philadelphia and an editor for the ABC Radio Networks in New York City, reporter for KWY Philadelphia News Radio and editor for ABC Radio Network in New York City. While at WBTV, Ms. LeBrecht produced several radio and television documentaries regarding the Cherokee Indians, child abuse and cystic fibrosis that later won professional awards and honors. A proven leader in the industry, Ms. LeBrecht served as chair of the Congressional Radio and Television Correspondents Association at the U.S. Capitol between 1991 and 1992. Locally, she served on the board of directors of the Washington Press Club Foundation between 1995 and 2004.

Ms. LeBrecht became interested in politics at a young age and would often watch ""The Huntley-Brinkley Report" During her senior year in high school, she produced her first television show, and while in college, she worked at the campus radio station. Ms. LeBrecht has held a Bachelor of Science in journalism from the University of Florida since 1987.

Recognized for her achievements in journalism, Ms. LeBrecht received an Edward R. Murrow Award and Oliver S. Gramling Distinguished Reporter Award from the Associated Press. A celebrated Marquis listee, she has been featured in more than 30 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the East and Who's Who of American Women.

Married to the late Don LeBrecht, a pioneer in the industry, Ms. LeBrecht's husband spent 17 years as head of the Broadcast Industry Council in Washington, where he worked with the National Association of Broadcasters on various public service campaigns, including literacy, alcohol and drug abuse, and AIDS awareness. Prior to that appointment, he held management positions at major radio stations in New York, Toronto, Philadelphia and Washington, as well as with Triangle Broadcasting, Jefferson-Pilot Broadcasting and Capital Cities Communications. The two met in Charlotte, North Carolina, when he was head of WBT-FM.

Even after his retirement, Mr. LeBrecht provided what he coined as "logistical support," by providing care and encouragement for Ms. LeBrecht during her travels. She notes that he would pick her up whenever she worked late at the Pentagon or Capitol Hill and even drove her to various assignments to ensure her concentration on reporting. Mr. LeBrecht will always be remembered as a loving, considerate and generous man and husband, renowned for his thoughtfulness and ability to recount stories that would bring joy and enthusiasm to everyone he met.
