Inspired by his father, who also was a lawyer, Mr. Hanlon excels as an attorney in private practice with the Law Offices of Michael G. Hanlon in Portland. For 40 years, he has represented clients in business and commercial cases, as well as shareholder and partnership disputes, antitrust law, securities, class action cases, and other complex litigation. Before establishing his practice, he gained valuable expertise in the field through the Law Offices of Henry A. Carey and the State of Oregon's Department of Justice, with which he served as an assistant attorney general for the antitrust division in 1980. In a career filled with highlights, Mr. Hanlon is especially proud of obtaining a $340 million recovery for Oregon federal retirees.

Prior to obtaining his law degree, Mr. Hanlon earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Oregon in 1975. Subsequently, he received a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the Lewis & Clark College Northwestern School of Law, and was admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the District of Oregon, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and the Supreme Court of the United States. Mr. Hanlon retains professional affiliations with the Multnomah County, Oregon State Bar, and American Bar Associations. He has also authored two chapters for the Oregon State Bar's "Civil Pleading and Practice" and "Federal Civil Litigation in Oregon" continuing legal education publications.

For his outstanding efforts in law, Mr. Hanlon was named an Oregon Super Lawyer and received an Award of Merit through the Multnomah Bar Association in 2001. Likewise, he has been rated as an AV preeminent attorney through Martindale-Hubbell for 30 years. Professional publications such as Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who in American Law have also recognized him for his professional accomplishments.
