An accomplished listee, Dr. Overdorf celebrates many years of experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. With more than 45 years of professional experience, Dr. Overdorf was a professor of Kinesiology with William Paterson University from 1967 to 2012. In addition to her primary role, she held a number of other positions with the school, including as the head coach of the women's field hockey team from 1968 to 1972 and of the women's tennis team from 1969 to 1987, the chair of movement sciences from 1984 to 1996, a special assistant to the dean of the College of Science and Health from 1994 to 1995, and the chair of the faculty senate from 1998 to 2001, having served as the vice chair since 1996. Earlier in her career, Dr. Overdorf worked as an instructor and women's basketball and women's field hockey coach at Eastern Connecticut State College from 1966 to 1967, as well as SUNY Binghamton from 1964 to 1966.

Dr. Overdorf first pursued a liberal arts education at Ohio Wesleyan University, where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts in physical education and psychology in 1963. She continued her studies with Indiana University, completing a Master of Science in physical education and motor learning in 1964. She then attended Montclair State University, receiving a Master of Arts in psychology in 1972. Dr. Overdorf later continued her education with Columbia University Teachers College, earning a Master of Education in motor learning and biomechanics in 1976, as well as a Doctor of Education in 1983.

A respected voice in her areas of interest, Dr. Overdorf has been affiliated with a number of professional organizations. She is a member of the New Jersey Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance, from which she received a presidential citation, an Honor Award and an Outstanding Teacher Award, the Eastern District Association, who also gave her an Honor Award and for which she served as a president, and the American Psychological Association. She has also been active with AIESEP, the Eastern Tennis Association, the Higher Education Council of the State of New Jersey, which she chaired, and ICHPER-SD. She is a member of the Intercollegiate Tennis Coaches Association, who named her as the Division III National Coach of the Year in 1984, and the United States Tennis Association. She is the past president of the National Association for Kinesiology in Higher Education, the North American Society for the Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity, the American College of Sports Medicine, SHAPE America, who also presented her with an Honor Award, and the Network of Women Leaders.

Dr. Overdorf is a trained researcher, who has published over 35 articles, many of which were research articles. She has also done over 100 talks and presentations during her career at local, district, national and international venues.
