Dr. Radhakanta Rana has found success as a metallurgist at Tata Steel in the Netherlands since 2015.

With more than 15 years of experience in metallurgical research to his credit, Dr. Rana has found success as a metallurgist at Tata Steel in the Netherlands since 2015, a place where he previously worked from 2008 to 2013. From 2013 to 2015, he was a research associate at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, CO. Dr. Rana began his research career as a junior research fellow at the Central Glass and Ceramic Research Institute in India from 2002 to 2003.
Before embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Rana pursued an education at the Bengal Engineering College at Shibpur, India, graduating with a Bachelor of Engineering in 2001 and a Master of Engineering in 2003, respectively, both in metallurgical engineering. He continued his academic efforts at the Indian Institute of Technology in Kharagpur, India and at RWTH Aachen University in Germany as a DAAD fellow for research in ferrous metallurgy. Following these accomplishments, Dr. Rana obtained a Doctor of Philosophy in metallurgical and materials engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in Kharagpur, India, in 2009.
A respected voice in his area of interest, Dr. Rana has authored more than 50 articles published in professional journals and conference proceedings, and is also designated as inventor in a few patents. Contributing to Scientific Reports as an editorial board member and to Metallurgical and Materials Transactions A as a board of review member, he is also an editor of the journal Materials Science and Technology and a book titled "Automotive Steels: Design, Metallurgy, Processing and Applications." He also guest-edited two special issues on novel ferrous alloys in Canadian Metallurgical Quarterly and a journal called JOM. Furthermore, he maintains his affiliation with such relevant organizations as the Minerals, Metals and Materials Society. In light of his exceptional undertakings, Dr. Rana was presented with a Project Team Recognition Award from the United States Department of Energy in 2015 as a team member, Best Innovation Awards from Tata Steel Europe in 2018 and 2019 and an Outstanding Reviewer Award from Scripta Materialia in 2016.
