With more than four decades of legal experience to his credit, Mr. Gustavson has excelled as an attorney since 1976. Mr. Gustavson began his career as General Counsel for the Gustavson Group, Inc., an architectural design firm, in Salt Lake City, Utah, from 1976 to 1990 where he represented the interests of architects and engineers including doing professional insurance defense work and legal construction documents for projects in Utah and California. During this period he also worked as a senior partner at Gustavson, Schultz, Hall & Williams from 1983 to 1993 where he focused on corporate and transactional law. Following that, he served in the capacity of general corporate counsel for the Christensen Boyles Corporation in Salt Lake City, Utah between 1993 and 1996 where his work focused once again on construction law. Since 1996, Mr. Gustavson has maintained a private practice with a strong emphasis on representing dentists and oral surgeons where he has handled many dozens of practice sales and acquisitions as well as related legal work.
Mr. Gustavson initially pursued an education at the University of Utah, earning an Honors Bachelor of Arts Degree in Philosophy, magna cum laude, in 1973. He subsequently obtained a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the aforementioned institution in 1976. Subsequently, Mr. Gustavson was admitted to practice law by the Utah State Bar in 1976. He continues his legal education with online courses that keep him up-to-date with current trends and policies in the legal field.
In addition to his primary responsibilities as an attorney, Mr. Gustavson found success as a member of the Tanner Humanities Center with the University of Utah from 1994 to 2002 and as an adjunct professor of philosophy at the Utah Valley Community College. He has also contributed numerous articles to professional journals, as well as philosophy articles in several publications.
He has kept his professional affiliations current by membership in the Utah State Bar since 1976, participating, particularly, on its Ethics Advisory Committee for three years. To remain aware of trends in the legal field, Mr. Gustavson has also maintained his affiliation with the Salt Lake County Bar Association as well as being a member of special Utah Bar groups.
A lover of cars and automotive rebuilding, Mr. Gustavson owns 11 vintage cars, and founded both the International Car Builders' Museum and the GSL International Scale Vehicle Championship and Convention -two organizations that bring together individuals from around the world to share their mutual interests and to foster scale automotive creativity.
