BEDFORD, TEXAS, October 10, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present J'Nell Laverne Pate, PhD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Pate celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Pate is renowned as a retired history and government professor who taught at Tarrant County College in Fort Worth, Texas, between 1968 and 2000. Prior to her tenure at the aforementioned college, she taught for the Fort Worth School District for seven years. Although she is no longer in the classroom, Dr. Pate continues to conduct research and publish books in her areas of expertise.

Authoring 10 books to date, Dr. Pates' doctoral thesis became her first published work, titled "Livestock Legacy: The Fort Worth Stock Yards." Other books to her credit have included "North of the River" in 1994, "Hazel Vaughn Leigh and the Fort Worth Boys' Club" in 2000 and "Arsenal of Defense: Fort Worth's Military Legacy" in 2011. She has also provided her wealth of knowledge to multiple articles in scholarly journals. Moreover, Dr. Pate found success as a weekly contributor of the Azle News, a newspaper that serves parts of Tarrant, Parker and Wise counties near Azle, Texas, for nearly 50 years.

Studying journalism and history as an undergraduate, Dr. Pate ultimately decided not to pursue a fulltime writing career because she felt that there would be too much pressure working for a daily newspaper. However, she did obtain a scholarship, which enabled her to complete her master's degree. She initially pursued an education at Texas Christian University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in history and journalism in 1960 and a Master of Arts in history in 1964. Certified as a teacher in the state of Texas, Dr. Pate graduated from the University of North Texas with a Doctor of Philosophy in history in 1982.

A fellow and member of the Texas State Historical Association, Dr. Pate was honored with a Coral H. Tullis Award in 1989. She is also a member of the Western History Association, the West Texas History Association, the Tarrant County Historical Society and the North Fort Worth Historical Society. She is currently participating on the board of the Azle Historical Museum and the Log Cabin Village in Fort Worth. Dr. Pate notably accepted a Joseph J. Ballard Award from the North Fort Worth Historical Society and a Mrs. Percy Jones Award from the West Texas Historical Association.

In 1990, Dr. Pate was presented with an Outstanding Graduate Award from the University of North Texas. She previously was recognized with an Excellence in Teaching Award from the northeast campus of Tarrant County College in 1986. A celebrated Marquis listee, Dr. Pate has been featured in Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the South and Southwest and Who's Who of American Women.
