Dr. Jon R. Hurd is a nuclear physicist with more than 40 years of career achievement.

Dr. Hurd is a nuclear physicist with more than 40 years of career achievement. He completed a Bachelor of Science from the Ohio State University in 1968 before serving his country in the United States Army from 1969 to 1971. In recognition of his service, he received an Army Commendation Medal. Upon returning to civilian life, Dr. Hurd pursued a Master of Science from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, graduating in 1973. He completed his education in 1979 with a Doctor of Philosophy from Florida State University.

From 1979 to 1981, Dr. Hurd was a research investigator at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He relocated to Los Alamos, New Mexico, in 1982, becoming a research associate for the University of Virginia. In 1984, he became a member of staff at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico, rising to project leader in 1989, a role he held until retirement.

Dr. Hurd is a member of the National Standards Institute, where he served on the writing committee from 1990 to 1994, the American Physical Society, the American Association of Physics Teachers, and the Institute of Nuclear Materials Management. He is a frequent contributor to professional journals, and his research has included work identifying several novel heavy ion resonances. In 1986, he was presented with an Award of Excellence from the United States Government for significant contributions to the development of the nuclear weapons program. Likewise, he was selected for inclusion in the first edition of Who's Who in Science and Engineering in 1992. In his leisure time, Dr. Hurd enjoys bridge, chess, and other games of logic, and is a talented multi-instrumentalist.
