With over 55 years of experience in the retail industry, Mr. Kindlund has contributed his illimitable expertise in the recreational vehicle (RV) industry to Camping World Holdings, Inc since 2000. Initially recruited as a national sales manager for Vesley Manufacturing Company after a year of teaching high school history in Lansing, Michigan, he was excited for the opportunity. Working for several other wonderful companies over the next four decades, in time he had become a well-recognized figure in retail, a successful business owner, and a pioneer in the realm of RV retail.
Five years into Mr. Kindlund's career with Vesely, he joined Midas International Corporation in Chicago as the vice president of sales and marketing. He then founded North Carolina Kindlund & Associate in Glenville, North Carolina, and Holiday of Orlando, Inc., Holiday RV Rental/Leasing and Holiday RV Superstores, Inc. in Orlando. The latter company became a recognized NASDAQ corporate market company, which he and his wife eventually sold after more than 30 years to a group of investors in 1999. During his tenure, Mr. Kindlund was the first in the industry to do a national chain roll-up. His dealership was also the first in America to take an RV Dealership Chain public, and he was the first owner in America to develop a retail processing system that is now emulated in dealerships throughout the United States.
During his professional journey, Mr. Kindlund gained valuable experience as the regional vice president and on the board of directors for the Recreational Vehicle Industry Association in Washington. A national trade association representing RV manufacturers and their component parts suppliers, together they build more than 98% of all RVs produced in the U.S. and approximately 60 percent of RVs produced worldwide. In addition to serving as the president of a myriad of Holiday RV Superstores throughout the United States, Mr. Kindlund was a member on the advisory board of Trail Life Publications, a member of the Central Florida World Trade Council, and co-founded with his wife, Joanne, Kindlund Investments, Inc. in Winter Park and Gryon, Switzerland.
Mr. Kindlund received a Bachelor of Arts at Michigan State University in 1963. He later completed postgraduate coursework at Boston College during 1969 and the University of Pennsylvania in 1977. Since embarking upon his career, Mr. Kindlund has been active with numerous professional organizations, most notably as a founding member and board director for the Florida RV Trade Association. He also served as the national chairman of the Recreational Vehicle Rental Dealers Association and was on the advisory board of the National RV Dealers Association and the Family Motor Coach Association. Further, Mr. Kindlund was on the executive board of the Recreational Vehicle Dealers Association.
Giving back to his community, Mr. Kindlund founded the Kindlund Family RVAA Scholarship, which has bestowed over 32 scholarships to members of families with RVs throughout the U.S. He has likewise participated in the Minds Matter scholarship program in the San Francisco Bay area numerous times, which is a comprehensive and highly successful three-year program that empowers young people from low-income families to achieve college readiness. He also served on the board of directors of the Recreational Vehicle Foundation. Locally, Mr. Kinlund has been known for his commitments to the Central Flordia Better Business Bureau, and the Orlando Chamber of Commerce, the latter of which he served as an executive committee member and a member on the board of directors. The chamber notably honored him in 1992 with a Silver 100 Award.
In 1982, Mr. Kindlund was awarded a Small Business Person of the Year Award by the Small Business Administration in the State of Florida, was named to the RV Industry Hall of Fame in 2002, and was recognized as an Entrepreneur of the Year by Ernst & Young, Inc. in Tampa. Moreover, he qualified as a semi-finalist for the Jim Moran Entrepreneurial Excellence Award by Florida State University in 1996. Additionally, Mr. Kindlund was recognized as an Industry Executive of the Year by RV News Magazine and by several other industry-related publications.
