Beginning a career as a chemist with McGaw Laboratories in 1978, Mr. Stevens moved to Alcon Laboratories in 1981 where he served as a scientist and then as a principal scientist for 28 years. From 2010 to 2013, he provided his expertise as a director of research and development and then as director of quality control at Neos Therapeutics. Mr. Stevens continues to consult, host webinars and trainings, and is invited to speak at multiple conferences each year around the world. Some clientele has included Alere (Abbott), Epocal, Evonik, Janssen (J&J), PepsiCo, and Teva Pharmaceuticals.
Renowned for his work, Mr. Stevens has worked on cutting-edge analytical and characterization systems, material optimization programs, and state-of-the-art drug delivery systems using chemically modified materials, smart gels and novel approaches. He has developed hundreds of analytical methods, made significant advancements in measuring physical-chemical relationships of materials and their mechanisms for controlling drug release, especially for polymers and has developed predictive in vitro models to study drug delivery devices. As a result of his research, Mr. Stevens has authored numerous scientific papers and has been an invited speaker at a United States Pharmacopeia research consortium, at the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and at American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists conferences.
Mr. Stevens received a Bachelor of Science in chemistry at Oral Roberts University in 1978 and a Master of Science in chemistry at the University of North Texas in 1996. He has been a member of the American Chemical Society and the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists. The recipient of an Alcon Laboratories Research Award and honored by the Texas governor as an Admiral of the Texas Navy for community leadership, Mr. Stevens is also a celebrated Marquis listee who has been featured in the fourth edition of Who's Who in Science and Engineering.
