With more than 35 years of experience to his credit, Rodney A. White, MD, is currently retired as chief of vascular surgery for the LA County Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Carson, CA, where he excelled from 1980 to 1996. Prior to this appointment, he served at the aforementioned medical center as an instructor of surgery and a vascular fellow between 1979 and 1980. Previously, he worked for Interpore International in a number of capacities, including as a consultant and the director from 1976 to 1984. Dr. White began his career at the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center as an intern from 1974 until 1975 and a resident in surgery from 1975 to 1979.

Before embarking on his professional path, Dr. White pursued an education at Syracuse University on a football scholarship, earning a Bachelor of Science in 1970. He concluded his studies at New York University in 1974, graduating with a Doctor of Medicine. Moreover, he was mentored by his uncle, Eugene White; his high school coach, Jack Hart and college coach, Ben Schwalder, the chief of cardiac surgery at Upstate Medical Center, Dr. Watts Webb; pathologist Robert Roner; and orthopedic surgeon Dick Cheroff. In addition to these accomplishments, Dr. White has been a diplomate of the American Board of Surgery.

Beyond his responsibilities within the field, Dr. White has participated in numerous endeavors outside of his professional circles. Since 1980, he has contributed to the board of directors for the Medical Research Association of California. Following his retirement from the County of Los Angles, he has continued his practice as Medical Director of Vascular Surgery for the MemorialCare Heart & Vascular Institute at the Long Beach Memorial Medical Center. Dr. White has found success with his written works as well, authoring, co-authoring, or providing his wealth of knowledge to 12 books, 150 book chapters, and 315 published articles.

In addition to his primary vocation, Dr. White remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. The chairman of the endovascular aneurysm registry committee sponsored by the Lifeline Foundation of the Society for Vascular Surgery, he has maintained his involvement with the Society for Biomaterials, the Society for Vascular Surgery, the International Society for Endovascular Surgery and the American College of Surgeons. He was also active with the vascular graft standards committee for the New Jersey chapter of the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation since 1980. Furthermore, Dr. White was a member of the honorable societies of Alpha Omega Alpha and Phi Beta Kappa.

In light of his exceptional undertakings, Dr. White has accrued several accolades throughout his impressive career including multiple patents in the field of medicine. Notably, he was presented with the First Annual U.S. Congressional Golden Goose Award for Federally-Funded Research Leading to Significant Patient Care and Economic Benefit. Likewise, Dr. White was selected for inclusion in the first edition of Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America, the 20th edition of Who's Who in the West and the 64th edition of Who's Who in America.

Interested in becoming a surgeon as a child, Dr. White attributes his success to his exemplary experiences with mentors and educators, which has led to his incredible track record with patient satisfaction. He proudly recalls his contributions to the innovation in medicine and science happening throughout his career, as he found his commitment to these tremendous advances as a no-lose proposition. Renowned as one of the world's foremost endovascular device experts, his work in stent grafts is quite remarkable, having acquired the first FDA-approved investigator-sponsored Investigational Device Exemption in the 1990s.
