As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

With more than 30 years of experience to his credit, Dr. Milton currently excels as the director of athletic scholarships at the Bishop Thomas K. Gorman Catholic School. In his present role, he has guided over 200 students toward division 1 colleges throughout the United States, proudly sporting a 98% graduation rate in less than five years. Moreover, he has worked as a senior pastor at the Open Door Bible Fellowship Church since 2018, having previously served as a pastor at the Greater New Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church from 1986 to 2018. Dr. Milton has further found success as the founder of the Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration in Tyler for 35 consecutive years.

Before embarking on his professional path, Dr. Milton pursued an education at the University of California Los Angeles, earning a Bachelor of Arts in education in 1978. He continued his studies with a master's degree from the School of Theology and Christian Ministry at Point Loma Nazarene University in 1980. Following these accomplishments, Dr. Milton obtained an honorary doctorate from Point Loma Nazarene University.

In addition to his primary vocation, Dr. Milton remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. He has maintained his involvement on the Sunday School publishing board for the National Baptist Convention, USA. He was also active as the president of the Texas Baptist Foreign Mission Convention. Likewise, Dr. Milton was a member of the board of directors for the University of Texas Health and Hospital System.

In light of his exceptional undertakings, Dr. Milton has accrued several accolades throughout his impressive career. Coaching his track and field team throughout 10 state championships, he was eponymously honored with the Reverend Jerome R. Milton Track: Home of Champions. Profiled in Sports Illustrated in 2002, he was notably the first African American to be presented with the Prestigious TV Butler Award. In 2012, Dr. Milton was invited by Congressman Louie Gohmert as a guest pastor to pray in front of the United States House of Representatives.

Growing up in the foster care system, which inspired him to adopt 11 children of his own, Dr. Milton attributes his success to Datie Florence Johnson Brown, a woman he met in the last of 14 foster homes, who provided him with a support system and motivated him to run track and play football at the University of California Los Angeles. Having run track since the age of 11, he fondly recalls participating in the 1976 Olympic Trials. Greatly impacted by the motto "Don't let your abuse be your excuse," he persists in his passionate efforts by expecting to succeed when everyone expects him to fail. Looking toward the future, Dr. Milton hopes to continue helping and aiding voiceless and helpless children while utilizing his experience to help others realize their dreams.
