MUNCIE, IN, October 18, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Wes D. Gehring, PhD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Gehring celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

As a distinguished professor of film in the telecommunications department at Ball State University, Dr. Wes D. Gehring has built a prolific career in performing arts education. From a young age, he developed his interest in film and the arts, attending myriad movies with his father Gerald David. His father had a great sense of humor, a passion for comedy, and raised him with strong liberal values. His mother, Mary McIntyre, encouraged a strong respect for art and culture. When Dr. Gehring decided to pursue a career as a film professor, both parents were fully supportive.

Dr. Gehring attended The University of Iowa and studied social work, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in 1973, and was a member of the university undergraduate writers' workshop. He continued his academic pursuits at the aforementioned university as a graduate student in film, earning a Master of Arts in 1974, completing his postgraduate coursework, and receiving a Doctor of Philosophy in 1977. Dr. Gehring cites historian Richard MacCann as a mentor who motivated and inspired him through graduate school. Upon the completion of his education, he accepted a position as an assistant professor in the telecommunications department at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, which he held from 1978 to 1983.

Continuing his career as a performing arts educator, Dr. Gehring achieved success and rose to the rank of an associate professor in the telecommunications department in 1983. He held this designation until 1986, when he accepted a position as a full professor of film at Ball State University. Dr. Gehring served in this post for more than 25 years, and was awarded the designation of distinguished professor of film in 2014. Currently, he continues his work as an educator at Ball State University.

In addition to his professorial work, Dr. Gehring has contributed to the study of film through his written contributions. He serves as an associate media editor for USA Today Magazine and is a prolific author of scholarly works. Throughout his career, he has written and published more than 40 books, several of which have received awards and recognitions. His published works include: "Chaplin's War Trilogy: An Evolving Lens in Three Dark Comedies, 1918-1947," "Genre-Busting Dark Comedies of the 1970s: Twelve American Films," "Hitchcock and Humor: Modes of Comedy in Twelve Defining Films" and "Gehring Lost & Found: Selected Essays," and his biographies have been acknowledged at various national BookExpo events for independent publishers, such as the Indiana Historical Society Press. In a career full of achievements, Dr. Gehring has also been one of Turner Classic Movies' on-screen scholars for their summer online classes since 2017.

For his excellence and experience in performing arts education and scholarship, Dr. Gehring has been recognized with numerous awards. He received the James Dean Bronze Biography Award in 2009 as well as two Distinguished Researcher Awards in 1986 and 2002. Choice Magazine has said of him: "Gehring remains supreme in film comedy scholarship." In addition, he was selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Who's Who in America. His writing has resulted in speaking engagements from the Paris-Sorbonne University to New York's Museum of Modern Art.

In his spare time, Dr. Gehring has served as a member of multiple community organizations, including the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the Southern Poverty Law Center and the American Civil Liberties Union. For his dedication and service to the NAACP, he was recognized with a local NAACP President's Award in 2013. Dr. Gehring is an engaged father and grandfather, and enjoys a handful of hobbies, including watching films, writing, sports, exercise and travel. His plan is always to write a new book each year and continue his work as a distinguished professor of film at Ball State University.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to his profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Wes D. Gehring, PhD, has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
