He embarked upon his professional journey after obtaining a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Marquette University in Wisconsin in 1972 and, upon being licensed to practice law by the State Bar of Wisconsin, created a firm with a law school classmate. Mr. Hupy has accrued further success in subsequent decades at another firm, as a partner in the firm of Jacobson and Hupy S.C., and Hupy and Abraham S.C., at which he remains senior partner.
Mr. Hupy was initially inspired to become an attorney by his father, Wilfred Hupy, who served his community as a judge and lawyer in his own right. Striving to live up to his father's example, his manifold achievements include winning a 9.5-million-dollar verdict in a slip and fall injury case involving a small child, as well as successfully arguing before a court regarding marijuana misclassification in the state of Wisconsin. Among his civic accolades is a commendation from former Governor Jim Doyle in 2008, who opined that Mr. Hupy made his state "a better place to live." From 1995 onward, he has been AV Preeminent Rated by Martindale-Hubbell, the highest rating among his peers reflecting legal aptitude and ethical firmness.
During his career, Mr. Hupy has maintained involvement with numerous prestigious organizations, namely Martindale-Hubbell, the American Association for Justice, the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum and the first list of Super Lawyers. In civic affairs, he was on the board of the Wisconsin Association for Justice and Wisconsin Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Children's Outing Association (COA). Mr. Hupy's son, Rex, continues the family tradition as a corporate attorney in New York, and his daughter, Maxine, is a professional dancer and actress.
