AMHERST, MA, October 24, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Willie Hill, PhD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Hill celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Hill was inspired by his junior high school band director, Ulysses S. Miller, who encouraged him to pursue music and to audition for the Grambling State University band as a teenager. With this encouragement, he secured a full scholarship to Grambling State University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in music education in 1968. During his time at Grambling, he was a drum major at the 1967 Super Bowl, an experience he considers to be the highlight of his career. Dr. Hill concluded his education at the University of Colorado, graduating with a master's degree in music education in 1972, and a Doctor of Philosophy in music education in 1987.

From 1968 to 1984, Dr. Hill worked as an instrumental music instructor for Denver Public Schools, teaching students from kindergarten through 12th grade. From 1984 to 1988, he found success as an instructional consultant and an instrumental music supervisor for the Music Education Office for Denver Public Schools, before excelling at the University of Colorado, Boulder, as a professor of music education and an assistant dean of music from 1988 to 1999. Since 1999, Dr. Hill has been affiliated with the University of Massachusetts as a professor and the director of the Fine Arts Center.

Dr. Hill has provided his professional expertise to his community as well, serving as the founder and the director of the Rich Matteson Mile High Jazz Camp and as a presenter at the Rich Matteson Telluride Jazz Academy, as well as on the board of directors of the Vail Jazz Foundation. He is a past president MENC (National Association for Music Education, 2002-2004) and past president of IAJE (The International Association for Jazz Education, 2000-2002).

He is the author of "Learning to Sight Read: Jazz, Rock, Latin, and Classical Styles" in 1994, and "The Instrumental History of Jazz" in 1997. Likewise, Dr. Hill is the recipient of the Lee Berk Jazz Educator of the Year Award in 2000, and Downbeat Magazine's Jazz Education Achievement Award that same year.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to his profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Dr. Hill has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
