As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

From 1969 to 2010, Mr. Delaney excelled at the firm of Deloitte LLP, an international professional services organization headquartered at 30 Rockefeller Center in Manhattan, NY, where he held the role of a partner and a managing director before retiring as the director of Northeast alumni relations. He began his tenure at the firm as an audit assignment director before advancing as the director of administration for management advisory services and the director of administration for the entire 500-person administrative staff. Mr. Delaney has also gained a reputation as an active civic leader and a volunteer with several community service, faith-based, and voluntary organizations on Staten Island and throughout New York City for the past 40 years.

Born in Orange, NJ, Mr. Delaney was inspired from a young age to follow in the footsteps of his father, Joseph Paul, Sr., a very kind and compassionate man who regularly demonstrated the importance of helping others. He pursued an education at Seton Hall University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in humanities in 1967. He later relocated to Staten Island in 1971 upon marrying his wife, Nancy Meril. When he entered the workforce, he gravitated to the professionalism of Deloitte, where no two days were alike and the fast-paced environment proved to consistently energize and thrill him. Retrospectively, Mr. Delaney could not see himself thriving anywhere else.

Although in retirement, Mr. Delaney currently serves on the board of directors for several nonprofit and voluntary institutions, including the Bernikow Jewish Community Center of Staten Island. He is active as the chairman of the board for Catholic Charities of Staten Island, a board member of Project Hospitality, Virtual Enterprises International, and the Archbishop Fulton Sheen Foundation. In 2018, he was appointed as the first non-alumnus member on the board of directors for the University of Notre Dame Alumni Association, previously finding success as the president of the University of Notre Dame Alumni Club of Staten Island from 1996 to 2006. Under Mr. Delaney's leadership in the aforementioned position, the group received the Charles F. Lennon Award in 1995 and 2005, as the most outstanding alumni club in the Alumni Association.

Since 1992, Mr. Delaney has directed the Notre Dame Club's Annual Bread of Life Food Drive, which has collected and donated more than a million food items for 25 nonprofit organizations on Staten Island and Brooklyn over the course of nearly 30 years. In November 2018, Mr. Delaney was honored at Yankee Stadium, during the Notre Dame-Syracuse football game as the "Outstanding Subway Alum" for his volunteer work on behalf of Notre Dame. In 2015, Mr. Delaney retired as the director of the Deloitte United Way Campaign after nearly 20 years of supervision, during which time he helped raise more than $3 million annually.

Throughout his distinguished career, Mr. Delaney has been cited on several occasions by Deloitte for his outstanding volunteer community service in representing the firm in the New York City market place. In 2002 and 2003, he was honored by the firm as its most outstanding community service volunteer in the United States. In 2007, he was awarded the prestigious DAVOS Award by the Deloitte Global Organization in recognition of his efforts to change the world for the better. Mr. Delaney has also been bestowed with the Silva Award from Virtual Enterprises International in 2006, Hero of Staten Island Award from Assemblyman Robert Straniere in 1999, the Robert Parker Community Service Award of the North Shore Democratic Club in 1998, the March of Dimes Board of Directors Volunteer of the Year Award in 1998, the R.S.V.P. Volunteer of the Year Award in 1994, the Citizen of the Year Award from the American Legion of Richmond County in 2005, and consecutive Top Walker Awards from the March of Dimes between 1997 and 2004, among several other accolades.

Upon reflection of his wide array of accomplishments, Mr. Delaney is particularly proud of his association with Virtual Enterprises International, whose business volunteers travel to metropolitan high schools every Friday and work alongside students, who are taught how to operate a business through virtual courses conducted by the New York City Department of Education. The New York office of Deloitte has hired 28 individuals out of this program to become certified public accountants and marketing experts. Looking toward the future, Mr. Delaney, who still visits with students once a week within the aforementioned initiative, hopes to continue being active and spend more time with his family, which consists of two children and three grandchildren.
