Theodore H. Lackland shared his professional expertise with a new generation of legal professionals as an adjunct professor at Georgia State University Law School.

Mr. Lackland enrolled in the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) at Loyola University, and he received a Bachelor of Science (Hum.) in 1965. Enrolling in the ROTC was a way to assist in financing his education. He received a regular army commission that allowed him to attend Howard University while on leave from active duty. He graduated from Howard in 1967 with a Master of Arts. Mr. Lackland served as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army: first, as an Armored Cavalry Officer in the Second Armored Division at Ft. Hood, Texas, later volunteered for Ranger School and service in the Infantry in Vietnam, where he served in 1968-69. Later he served on the staff of the Armor School at Fort Knox, KY. While at Ft. Knox, Mr. Lackland taught philosophy at the Ft. Knox branch of the University of Kentucky. He was decorated for his military service with a Bronze Star with an oak leaf cluster, an Air Medal, a Purple Heart, and an Army Commendation Medal. He also received the Combat Infantryman's Badge as a rifle company commander.

Mr. Lackland resigned his commission in 1971 and enrolled in Columbia University Law School in 1972 with the goal of pursuing a career supportive of his passion for philosophy and human rights. While at Columbia, he authored two articles for the Columbia Human Rights Law Review and was a Charles Evans Hughes Fellow. He earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1975 and was admitted to practice law by the New Jersey State Bar the same year. From 1975 unti11978, he was an associate of Dewey, Ballantine, Bushby, Palmer, and Wood of New York City. Later, Mr. Lackland received an appointment as an assistant United States Attorney for the District of New Jersey in 1978 and remained there until 1981. After passing the Georgia Bar, he became an associate and later a partner at Arnall, Golden, & Gregory in Atlanta, Georgia.

Mr. Lackland became the proprietor and a partner of Lackland & Associates of Atlanta, Georgia, between 1993 and 1995. He was later a partner of Lackland and Heyward from 1995 to 2000, and became managing partner at Lackland & Associates, LLC in 2000. From 1989 to 1999, Mr. Lackland shared his professional expertise with a new generation of legal professionals as an adjunct professor at Georgia State University Law School. He is a member of the American Association for Justice, the American Bar Association, and the Atlanta Bar Association.
