SAN RAMON, CA, October 31, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Andrew F.B. Tompson, PhD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Tompson celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Growing up in Reno, Nevada, Dr. Tompson had aspirations to become an architect. However, by the time he went to college, he decided to pursue a career in engineering because it married his architectural skills with a more accessible degree and market. While on break from school, he and a friend went fishing in Pyramid Lake, Nevada, and began to contemplate the issues with the area's water. At a crossroads in his career, he decided to focus on this problem, and when he received an opportunity to go to Princeton University for a summer internship, he began his studies in hydrology. Today, he excels as a staff scientist with the Atmospheric, Earth, and Energy Division of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, where he started in 1986. Earlier in his career, he worked as a postdoctoral associate with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for two years.

Over the years, Dr. Tompson provided valuable expertise during his service on the editorial boards of Advances in Water Resources and Computational Geosciences and as associate editor and deputy editor of Water Resources Research. Throughout his career, he has achieved many accomplishments. In addition to conducting research in the development and application of groundwater flow and quality models with a particular emphasis on radioactive contamination, Dr. Tompson was dedicated to water education. He built and demonstrated water education tools for students and specialists across the globe. One of his most satisfying experiences involved a collaboration with the Jordanian water ministry and a series of demonstrations for school students in Azraq, Jordan, the site of a recently dried up desert oasis.

In 1980, Dr. Tompson earned a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from Brown University. Subsequently, he attended Princeton University and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy in civil engineering in 1985. He maintains professional affiliation with the American Geophysical Union. With a plethora of knowledge at his disposal, he has contributed to more than 35 peer-reviewed articles in scientific journals and scientific conference articles, as well as more than 50 technical reports and 80 invited briefings and presentations.

Dr. Tompson has been honored many times for his efforts in hydrology. He was the recipient of a Spot Award for his "Science on Saturday" presentation "Hydrology of an Ant Farm" and a Distinguished Achievement Award for Extraordinary Programmatic Contribution from the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, a recent co-recipient of a Research and Innovations Award in Water Science along with colleagues from The Sultanate of Oman, and features in the ninth and 10th editions of Who's Who in Science and Engineering.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to his profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Dr. Tompson has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
