DOWNERS GROVE, IL October 31, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present W. Andreas Schroeder, PhD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Schroeder celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Schroeder specialized in sciences and mathematics in high school in the United Kingdom. After completing his Bachelor of Science in Physics from Imperial College in London, Dr. Schroeder joined the Optics Group at Imperial College for his doctoral studies where he worked with Dr. Michael Damzen under Professor Henry Hutchinson both of whom influenced his decision to follow an academic path for his career in physics.

After completing his Doctor of Philosophy, Dr. Schroeder arrived in the United States to take up a postdoctoral research position and subsequently served as a visiting assistant professor at the University of Iowa from 1991 to 1993 under the positive influence and guidance of Professor Arthur Smirl. Thereafter, he accepted the post of assistant professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1993 and has continued his career now in the role of a full professor of physics at the university.

Dr. Schroeder is a member of the Optical Society of America and the American Physical Society. He has authored or co-authored multiple articles for prestigious publications in his field. His published works include "High-power, femtosecond, thermal-lens-shaped Yb:KGW oscillator," published in Optics Express in 2008; "Combining Spatial and Temporal Resolution in the Dynamic TEM," published in Microscopy and Microanalysis in 2007; "A high-resolution, flat-field, plane-grating, f/10 spectrograph using off-axis parabolic mirrors," published in Applied Optics in 2007; "Low-threshold, dual-passive mode locking of a high-power, thermal-lens-shaped Nd:GdVO4 laser," published in Optics Express in 2006; and "Thermal lens shaping in Brewster gain media: A high-power, diode-pumped Nd:GdVO4 laser," published in Optics Express in 2004.

Awards granted to Dr. Schroeder include a National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER Award in 1998 and various teaching awards, including the Provost's Award for Excellence in Teaching (AET) in 2005. His proudest accomplishment is an article published in AIP Advances in 2019, a peer-reviewed scientific journal published by the American Institute of Physics. The article explores new research in photo-cathode physics, specifically making a direct connection between the electronic structure of a solid-state photocathode and its electron emission properties. He is also profoundly proud of the success his students have achieved, including the successes obtained by the growing number of female students who currently pursue careers in physics and related fields.
