Lula M. Fulson Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

On May 13, 2019, Ms. Fulson received a Retirement Award for 24 years of service as Trustee Treasurer and Secretary respectively to the William Leonard Public Library District in Robbins, Illinois.

Supported by professional excellence and an educational background, Ms. Fulson has found success as an instructor and coordinator for South Suburban College in South Holland, Illinois, since 1985. She has been associated with the aforementioned college since 1984, first starting as a retention counselor. A graduate of the National Louis University, Dr. Fulson earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1983 and a Master of Education in 1988. In addition, Ms. Fulson has been a successful Avon Representative for 27 years.

A published author, her novel "Memoirs of a Widow" was released in 1996. Ms. Fulson has also served as a co-editor of the Robbins Bulletin Newspaper since 1995. Civically, she has volunteered her time as a correspondence secretary for the Windy City Travelers Camping Club in Chicago for 15 years (1994-2008), the vice president of the People's Party in Robbins, and a trustee and treasurer for the William Leonard Public Library District since 1995. Ms. Fulson has also served as a secretary for the Theda Hambright Scholarship through South Suburban College since 1990.

As a testament to her impressive career, Ms. Fulson has been presented numerous honors and accolades. Named Outstanding Resident of the Year by Mayor Tyrone Ward of the Village of Robbins, she has been the recipient of the Noteworthy Senior Award and the Living Black History Award, and was honored as the Outstanding County Chairwoman by the Mothers Association at the University of Illinois. Ms. Fulson was additionally recognized as an Outstanding Citizen and Board Member of the Chicago Youth Center in Robbins in 1996, received the Gwendolyn Brooks Chicago Public Schools Poets Award on May 7, 2004 and the Pillar of Strength Award from Robbins Church of Christ in 2011. Most recently, on May 13, 2019, Ms. Fulson received a Retirement Award for 24 years of service as Trustee Treasurer and Secretary respectively to the William Leonard Public Library District in Robbins, Illinois. On April 8, 2019 she received the Village of Robbins Mayor Tyrone Ward and Village Administrator Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of public service, dedication, passion and and hard work on behalf of the citizens of the Village of Robbins.

In order to remain current with educational and community trends, Ms. Fulson maintains a relationship with Citizens United for Progress and the Keeping Pace Newsletter. She is also a member of the Illinois Adult and Continuing Educators Association, for which she served as a junior director and senior director between 1984 and 1986. Outside of her professional responsibilities, she enjoys camping, bowling, sports and reading.
