John R. Petrone Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

John R. Petrone had the opportunity to conduct and play piano for an all-French concert with French singer Renee Galland at Carnegie Hall in 1980.

Now a retired educator and composer, Dr. Petrone enjoyed a wonderful career in music for nearly 50 years. During his tenure, he taught and served as a music director at several public schools throughout Ohio, was an elementary supervisor for the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown, Ohio, and an adjunct faculty member at Ursuline College in Pepper Pike. Dr. Petrone also taught privately and played piano for shows throughout the state. He officially retired in 2005.

Some of Dr. Petrone's works have included composing "The Flight of Apollo Eleven" in 1979 as an arranger and composer, and "Augustine" in 1980 as an arranger and music director. Other works include "Mr. Jingeling," "Care Bears" and "NASA Higbees Christmas Show" in 1983. Dr. Petrone also conducted several songs such as "Goin' Baroque" and "Haydn Seek." Among his many achievements as a musician, Dr. Petrone had the opportunity to conduct and play piano for an all-French concert with French singer Renee Galland at Carnegie Hall in 1980. He was also involved with a group called the Honor Flight Network, which is a nonprofit organization created solely to honor America's veterans for all their sacrifices. Dr. Petrone notably wrote an anthem for the veterans, called "Proud Veterans," which has since been published.

Born and raised in Youngstown, Dr. Petrone graduated from high school and soon after attended Youngstown College where he received a Bachelor of Music in 1958. He later acquired a Master of Music at Duquesne University in 1963 and a Doctor of Philosophy in music composition at the Conservatoire Musique in La Lille, France, in 1982. Prior to entering college, he served for three and a half years in the U.S. Air Force with special services in Korea between 1951 and 1954. While in the service, Dr. Petrone played with a group called Stars and Khaki and Blue, which toured Korea, Japan and Okinawa. He is a certified teacher in the state of Ohio.

Dr. Petrone is a member of the American Society of Composers, the American Federation of Musicians and several honor societies. Named an Outstanding Secondary Educator of America in 1974, he was also a Martha Holden Jennings scholar between 1975 and 1976. A celebrated Marquis listee, Dr. Petrone has been featured in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education and Who's Who in the World.
